Former DHS Aide Pleads No Contest to Kid Sex ChargesThe Tampa Tribune reports:
A former Department of Homeland Security spokesman pleaded no contest this morning to 23 charges that he used a computer to solicit sex from a Polk County detective posing as a 14-year-old girl.Brian J. Doyle, 55, faces up to five years in prison when he is sentenced by Circuit Judge Dale Durrance on Nov. 17. His lawyer, Barry Helfand, said he plans to present testimony from psychiatrists, friends and family during the sentencing hearing to try spare Doyle any prison time.
“I just have one thing to say, I’m very, very sorry,’’ Doyle told reporters after he pleaded no contest to seven counts of use of a computer to seduce a child and 16 counts of transmitting harmful materials to a minor.
Doyle’s lawyer says he suffers from depression, and will explain his actions at his sentencing in November. Doyle was busted in April, you’ll recall. Sordid details are here.
