Baghdad Residents Hit By Robo Calls
Who says we're not spreading democracy in Iraq?
Not long after Republicans harrassed tens of thousands of Americans with automated phone messages in November's election, news comes that the robo call, that staple of American democracy, is being deployed in Iraq. And it's literally terrorizing city residents.
Nir Rosen of the new blog Iraqslogger reports, calling it a "mysterious psychological operations campaign," that Baghdad residents have reported "receiving phone calls that the caller ID shows to be originating from outside Iraq." What follows is a "recorded message from an anonymous man speaking formal Arabic" who goes on to condemn the Mahdi Army, the Shiite militia headed by the powerful cleric Muqtada al Sadr that's been a continual thorn in the U.S.'s side.
The Mahdi Army has also infiltrated police ranks, and run assassination squads. Fearing that the militia's inside men have access to wiretapping technology, ordinary Iraqis live in fear that their robocall will be picked up and intepreted as proof they are anti-Mahdi -- and face execution at the militia's hands. The call reportedly left one Iraqi woman in tears.
Like the non-lethal American variety of robo call, the source of the Iraqi calls has been cloaked, and no one has figured out where they're coming from. Or how to stop them.
I would bet 100-1 that those calls are initiated and paid for by the US government.

If this weren't such a hellish situation with rampant death and destruction, I would find the robo-calling of civilians in a warzone (likely the work of the Bush government with Rove's approval) uproariously funny.
Following on Ian's hilarious commercial, how about robo-calls suggesting that Prime Minister al-Maliki had sexual relations with Maniqa al-Lewinsqi AND fathered a black Christian Baptist baby with one of John McCain's cadre of black mama's? Throw in a couple allegations about how Maliki killed Vince Foster and is behind the secular War On Ramadan and there you have it.

This sounds like a PSYOP operation done by our military. What side are you people on? We are fighting enemy propoganda (by enemy, I mean NOT the US military) with our own propoganda. What's wrong with that? America is the good guys here. I know that's hard for the Left to understand, but that's a fact. Thepeople of Iraq (and Afhanistan)have been so influenced by fear caused by the Taliban and other terrorists that we need to change that. Does the Left want to win this War on Terror or what?

I keep wondering exactly how the liberal left expects us to fight this war. Seems the bad guys and the left are in agreement on tying our hands and then declaring defeat when we don't effectively engage the enemy.
When I look at the posts above that are against a PSYOPS campaign like this, I just shake my head and wonder why the left can't understand when people call them traitors.
