How revealing:
"What is your political party preference? DEMOCRAT, Republican, Independent or other? [Emphasis added.]
As far as I know, there is no "Democrat" party. That is just a currently popular way for certain persons affiliated with the Republican party to refer to members of the DEMOCRATIC party.
