Questions, Concerns Swirl around Politics of Prosecutor's Forced Exit
The head of the FBI's San Diego office and several former federal prosecutors are publicly questioning the politics behind the Bush administration's effort to force Carole Lam to resign as U.S. Attorney for San Diego.
Lam focused her office's efforts on public corruption, including the sprawling Duke Cunningham scandal. That investigation has touched several Republican lawmakers, leading some to speculate that Lam brought political heat down on herself with that probe, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The top FBI official for San Diego said that Lam's dismissal would jeopardize several ongoing investigations. "I guarantee politics is involved," special agent in charge Dan Dzwilewski told the paper. He did not speculate further.
“It will be a huge loss from my perspective,” Dzwilewski said.
Peter Nunez, who held Lam's post from 1982 to 1988, told the North County (Calif.) Times he was "in a state of shock" from hearing the news of Lam's forced ouster. "It's just like nothing I've ever seen before in 35-plus years. To be asked to resign and to be publicly humiliated by leaking this to the press is beyond any bounds of decency and behavior. It shocks me. It really is outrageous."
The question he had, according to the paper, was: "Why?"
Another former San Diego U.S. attorney expressed disbelief at the move. "In my years with the department, I never saw anything like this," Chris La Bella told the Times. La Bella served in Lam's post for a period in 1998. He said he didn't know whether Lam's focus on corruption was a factor, but he didn't rule it out. "The only people who know are in Washington," La Bella told the paper.

When I read this, the DOJ's attempt to orchestrate a corporate boycott of Gitmo lawyers, and other seemingly unrelated stories it makes me think.
The WH gang has lost the Congress. They now shift their focus on undermining the Judiciary. Their strategy may be that if you don't have the congress in your back pocket then you'll need to corrupt, undermine, or emasculate the court system.

You know, if I was a prosecutor who had nailed Duke Cunningham, and was "asked to resign" by members of the same party, I would think that I was doing my work very very well indeed, and that there was more work yet to be done. That leak is a badge of honor, not humiliation. Clearly, the Republican party is infested with crooks, and I cannot think of a better thing for a prosecutor to investigate than a government gone wrong. No way in hell I'd resign -- I'd make them formally fire me, and then drag their ass into court for the termination.
And what a peculiar deference to authority, that anyone would see the leak as something to be ashamed of, rather than the desperate act of a crook. Where there's smoke, there's fire, and someone should follow up that leak. Surely, the reporter who was leaked to, must know who did the leaking. There's more news to be had there.

My heart goes out to Carole Lam with the effort she put in to prosecute Duke Cunningham. Behavior says everything and it makes sense that what happened speaks volumes of what is going on at the top as well. Certainly I speak from experience since I was in a family for more than 26 years who joined organized crime only this wasn't any ordinary Crime System. It is what many call "the Government within our Government" who by the way is responsible for many other crimes. Frankly, the family often bragged about this being "The World's Largest Criminal System" and for good reason as it extends beyond our boarders.
Someone needs to tell Carole Lam to cheer up as she may possibly be selected to prosecute a few others at the top before this "corruption" thing is over. Currently she is famous for what she did and that should carry her further when more of this possibly is exposed.

If Lam has in her own judgment done nothing to deserve dismissal, then it is her solemn duty to refuse to resign, and if fired, to take her superiors to court and expose their political motives. We cannot let these Republican criminals continue to get away with their crimes. It was Lam's purpose to thwart their criminal plots, and that purpose should continue to guide her actions.

Sounds thoroughly illegal to me and who ever suggested not resigning and insisting on dismissal is correct as far as I am concerned. This is an outrage in the midst of a continual administrative implosion and immersion into unadulterated criminality. Has Cheney demanded another duck hunt with Justice Scalia? Sure is a good thing the independent counsel statute was discredited by the GOP. They certainly couldn't have foreseen any advantage to eliminating the possibility of any prosecutors working other than under the thumb of the president.
So, just for the record, according to the current attorney general and his boss,
Imprisoning US citizens without trial and torturing them for years on end: OK

Just in case you didn't know, every time a President from a different political party takes office, all of the US Attorneys leave so that the new President can appoint a US Attorney from their own party. So, according to Paul Kiel, Bush should have done what Clinton did (fire all U.S. attorneys simultaneously), and that would automatically exonerate Bush from charges of playing politics with U.S. Attorney's. Ha. Why doesn't Paul note the investigations into the Clintons that the summarily fired U.S. Attorneys were working on? There is a simple, obvious double standard here.

BUSH DID FIRE ALL 92 LIKE CLINTON and Bush and Reagan and Carter...they all do. The Attorneys serve 4 year terms as to coincide with the terms of presidents. What is unique to this case is that he again fired the guys he put into office.
8 of them. 2 of the 8 had been inappropriately contacted by Republican members of congress for the reason of influencing and pushing the prosecution of open partisan cases. Another put Duke Cunningham in jail. They were fired for the stated reason of poor performance despite being highly rated and well regarded.
So why don't you all get your facts straight, and from someone other than Sean Hannity, Mike Savage, Rush Limbaugh or "Doctor" Laura?

The reason it might appear that this website is "focused" on exacting justice on one political party is because of the pendulum effect. For six years there was absolutely no oversight and you can see where that's gotten us.
I thought Lam already took another high-paying job with a law firm. She has been extraordinarily quiet about how much further this Cunningham case was going. Who is working on it now? that is extremely important...

People seem to have forgotten about Carol Lam. I think one big reason she was gotten rid of is her order to search "Dusty" Foggo's house. He was the number three at the CIA at the time. This was in ralation to the "Duke" Cunningham bribery case, which was mentioned by the DC Madam just recently. What if it's all connected and some people really don't want it reported to the public that the CIA was running a prostitution blackmail operation in DC?
