Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, during a long interview with journalists, gave the Bush administration a little of their own medicine. From The Washington Post:
Maliki disputed President Bush's remarks broadcast Tuesday that the execution of former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein "looked like it was kind of a revenge killing" and took exception to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's Senate testimony last week that Maliki's administration was on "borrowed time."The prime minister said statements such as Rice's "give morale boosts for the terrorists and push them toward making an extra effort and making them believe they have defeated the American administration," Maliki said. "But I can tell you that they have not defeated the Iraqi government."...
"I know President Bush and I know him as a strong person that does not get affected by the media pressure, but it seems the pressure has gone to a great extent that led to the president giving this statement," Maliki said.
And there was this precious moment:
Maliki spoke slowly and seriously for most of the conversation, but occasionally broke into a smile, such as when he was asked whether Bush needs him more than he needs Bush. "This is an evil question," he said, laughing.

Is the reluctance/failure to equip the Iraq troops
justified? It must be a sore point with them when
we run around in Humvees and body armor and they are in pickups.

How quick they learn. It's too bad that they don't have a highly developed air transportation system in Iraq. The government could get more traction by setting up highly inefficient security inspection stations and raising the alert level after every Bush statement.

Clever. Don't ever let it be said that the Iraqis don't have politcal smarts. Just because they don't want to create a constitutional order like ours doesn't mean they don't "get" politics.
Look at Malaki flank Bush on the right. He just tossed the golden apple of discord into the GOP.
Between Congress and the American people on one side and Malaki on the other...

Maybe I'm just a simpleton, ... but.............
This whole thing is so f'ing scary, ...
Basically, what I can tell is that we are creating (arming/supplying) an army that will, when it is strong enough, .... kick us out and go to work on a full-scale ethnic clensing project, ... eventually resulting in a regime that is a true threat to just about about everyone...
It is so truely f'ed up.

Maliki's defense minister complained a few months ago about not being supplied with armor piercing projectiles by the Americans. As far as I know we are the only ones with armor in Iraq.

In the early years of the insurrection, the U.S. reluctance to give the Iraqis advanced arms and armor was based on the fear that the weapons would be turned against the U.S. troops.
This fear is still there, and well founded, but now there is an additional fear. The Iraqi army (and police even more so) have clearly become partisans in the sectarian civil war. Giving them more firepower just escalates the civil war. I don't think the Bushies, per se, would object to this, but the are likely being constrained by Sunni allies in the region, like Saudi Arabia.

Maliki: I understand and realize that inside the American Administration there is some kind of crisis happening, especially since the last election.

OH they only call meaningless "liberals" treasonous when they "encourage the terrorists" to kill our troops.
Will Drug Limpdick ask how many soldiers will die because of Rice and Bush's comments?

Why don't the Iraqis get unified around the idea of kicking the invaders out? Is there anything else that could unify them? Doesn't Washington hope that they will unite, that Iraq can be preserved whole?
