AP: Indictments Coming against Former CIA #3, Contractor
Federal prosecutors are preparing to seek indictments against a former top CIA official and a San Diego defense contractor linked to the bribery scandal that sent former U.S. Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham to prison, two government officials familiar with the investigation said Wednesday. The officials, who spoke to The Associated Press only on condition of anonymity because grand jury proceedings are secret and the charges have not been finalized, said prosecutors plan to ask a San Diego grand jury to return charges of honest services fraud and conspiracy against Kyle "Dusty" Foggo and Brent Wilkes....
Honest services fraud is a combination of mail and wire fraud often used in public corruption cases involving officials who have engaged in a pattern of improper activities, such as accepting gifts, trips or promises of future employment from private individuals.
The officials said a second indictment is being prepared that would charge Wilkes and two other alleged Cunningham co-conspirators - New York businessman Thomas Kontogiannis and his nephew, John T. Michael - with bribery and several conspiracy counts.
The indictments are likely to be returned within the next few weeks, the officials said.
For a refresher on why prosecutors are going after Foggo, see our reference entry on him here. More here.

Someone please put a bug in the ear of the sentencing judge on this case and tell him to sentence these men to server their time in the general population of a real prison.
Politicians have not been able to establish ethics reform for as long as I have been alive. Sentencing all of these "white collar" criminals to serve in the general population will establish ethics reform in minutes.

Wait a sec, wasn't the US Attorney, Carole Lam, fired? Has she left yet and is her replacement a Bush toady? When did these indictments get rolling, under the new or old USA?
I guess I'm asking, are these indictments likely to go anywhere?
Even a Bush toadie would be forced to proceed with an indictment already in the pipeline under Lam, to keep up appearences. Simply killing the case would be too obvious.
But the new USA could easily botch the investigation + prosecution going forward. Which would seem the point of Bush Administration's recent appointments under the Patriot Act.

Isn't Lam scheduled to step down 2/15? If I recall correctly she planned to do as you say and get these indictments in the pipeline before leaving.

I was sooo hoping we would get more on "Hookergate". And having the word "Watergate" around in the news can only be bad news for the Republicans.

She's there till 2/25 you think? Hmm..
Yeah, hopefully she gets lots rolling. hopefully TPM will cover that angle fully.
Also hoping the Dems are on top of this travesty
and screaming bloody murder. Political firing of corruption investigators? That's serious news.

Just watch those presidential pardons and those commuted sentences come rolling along.
These guys know too much and have raised too much backroom political money to let them squander in a cell somewhere.
You don't have to be a blind conservative not to see it, just an ignorant one to deny it.

Is it naive to have hope that Doolittle will soon be caught up in this investigation?

What about Duncan Hunter? How is that he was also bribed, but did not go to prison like Duke Cunningham?
This scandal leads into a whole thicket of nefarious activities the mainstream press wouldn't touch with a 10 foot investigative reporter. So read Dan Hopsicker instead http://www.madcowprod.com
