Justice: We're Working on It
Yesterday, I reported that Democrats had accused the Justice Department of stonewalling a Congressional study on the U.S. attorney purge. A Congressional Research Service analyst was trying to find out if the administration's move was unprecedented; but after a month, the Justice Department still hadn't gotten him the data he needed.
Justice Department spokesman Jonathan Block responded to my request for comment late last evening:
"[The Executive Office of the United States Attorney] was contacted and the inquiry was referred to the Office of Legislative Affairs. The material requested is in the process of being provided."
Maybe this whole thing will speed the process a little.

Supeona Power. Express it.
Contempt of Congress is illegal. Enforce it.

The Justice Dept does not comment. So far Gonzales and McNulty have just stonwalled our elected Representatives.
Maybe Gonzales is too busy giving proper waterboarding lessons. Getting a briefing from Robert Gates on how to put together a really, really, good Death Squad and get away with it.
The dreams of our founding father's have been thoroughly cast aside for greed and the lust of power. The Justice Department under Bush has now become the Bush Crimes Cover-up Squad.

I'm sure DOJ is working feverishly to get this report out, in the finest traditions of Senator Pat Roberts' Chairmanship of the Intelligence Committee.

Don't tell George W but start saying Dick Cheney's DOJ. Why won't Dick Cheney's DOJ release need information. George W is easily prevoked. He'll talk.

Wouldn't it be a little less bureaucratic if they just requested the info from HR?

Just like Condi is getting information on the President's power to attack Iran without Congressional approval to Jim Webb?
The DoJ isn't doing jack to get this info. They are stalling, which is what the CEO President's people do when confronted.
Supeona time.

Same old shit different day. Democrats - we are making political points, we'll swamp them in 2008.
Republicans - we'll have the money to swamp them in 2008 if we just keep the merchants of death happy. Welcome to democracy. For sale at any price.

A certain sub-committee needs to invite (via supeona) the Torture Czar Gonzalez to visit on Monday and drop off eight file folders with paperwork intact. That same sub-committee needs to invite the Capital Police to bring their hand-cuffs to work . . . just in case . . . and jot a little note reminding the officers that Mr. Gonzalez has testified that habeas corpus is not a right and point out that since big Gitmo transfer last year several countries with -stan have a little excess room that needs resident &/or tenants . . .

Do it. Give them a deadline...with a subpoena at the end of it. They are not trying to cough up any records they are trying to get rid of them and get their story straight. You already know the answers to your questions so proceed as if it's the truth and what they would do to block and obstruct investigation...Hire more lawyers, they have and you know why.

What's it take to cross the line over to Contempt of Congress? This is a disgrace. Subpoena those files. If so much as a paper clip is missing, cite Gonzales for Contempt. Do it for the children.

What Justice Dep ? There is only the President's legal bullyboys. They now say what the law is and enforce it with national security. Sure sounds like a Banana Republic.

I like the handcuffs idea. Might even be better than my persistent plea for impeachment. Jail would be faster and more effective
