Ousted Prosecutor Gets Corporate Gig
Three days after landing two historic indictments, the U.S. Attorney for California's Southern District Carol Lam is moving on to be senior vice president and legal counsel for QUALCOMM.

I'm not surprised that Qualcomm moved quickly to take Carol Lam out of play.
Qualcomm executive vice president, Daniel Sullivan, was on the board of directors of the Foundation for the Improvement of Mathematics and Science Education (FIMSE) and is (or was) a member of the San Diego State University Research Foundation Board of Directors.
As Paul Kiel here reported, FIMSE failed to report $15.5 million in federal grants in its 990s. FIMSE also failed to disclose $500k in lobbying fees paid to Copeland Lowery which is now under investigation. In fact, the FIMSE 990s fail to disclose much of anything.

Jane Gaworski, the FISME executive director who signed the bogus FIMSE 990s, also heads up something called the Professional Development Collaborative which is funded in part by Qualcomm.
I posted a lot of this information at the TPM Cafe in July 2006.
The Wilkes investigation is not the only reason Lam got the boot. In fact, it may not be the main reason. San Diego is awash in corruption.

Don't know is that is good or bad news...but from the look of the first post, it looks like she's being bought off to keep her mouth shut. If she goes from prosecuting crooks to defending crooks at Qualcomm that to me is a BIG STEP DOWN!

Rampant corruption in San Diego? What did the Seaworld Killer Whales know and when did they know it? Was the trainer that they dragged in the pool by the foot in November a whistleblower?
It's not very surprising that San Diego is corrupt with it being loeaded with California neocon politicians and Mexican drug traffickers.
All Congress needs to do is reauthorize the Independent Counsel, give them more leeway to launch prosecutions without the Attorney General asking them to, and put the language in this year's Justice Department budget bill. That would make it much harder to filibuster or veto.

Oops! Jane Gawronski signed the FIMSE 990 as executive director. I spelled her name wrong in my previous post.

Looks like everyone has their price. Sad news. I was hoping the Congress might hire Lam to continue the investigations.
