Abramoff: The Caged Bird Sings

Even though he's in prison, Jack Abramoff will continue to cooperate with prosecutors for the forseeable future. A status conference originally scheduled for tomorrow, during which the judge would have set a date for Abramoff to be sentenced on bribery charges, has been postponed until June 5th. Abramoff is already serviing time for separate fraud charges related to his purchase of a line of casino boats.

The prosecutors and Abramoff's lawyer agreed to push the date back last week, because "Mr. Abramoff’s cooperation will continue for the foreseeable future," according to a joint motion from the two parties. Prosecutors made the same request for Michael Scanlon, Abramoff's business partner.

Abramoff and Scanlon have already helped prosecutors win guilty pleas or convictions for ex-Rep. Bob Ney (R-OH), Ney's former chiefs of staff Neil Volz and Will Heaton, ex-Majority Leader Tom DeLay's staffer Tony Rudy, and former administration official David Safavian, and prosecutors are reportedly close to indicting the former deputy secretary of the Interior Steven Griles.

DeLay, DeLay's former chief of staff Ed Buckham, Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) and former Sen. Conrad Burns (R-MT) are reportedly on the shortlist of other potential targets.

These indictments are great news but I will never be satisfied until Tom DeLay is convicted, sentenced and jailed.

Not much has been said about Delay lately, could someone please bring us all up to speed on hist situation?

Bring on DeLay and Doolittle!

Just keep unravelling that sweater, please.

They just need to fire the investigators handling this.

Abramoff: still cooperating.
Anna Nicole Smith: still dead.
Good.

If Michael Scanlon is so busy helping prosecutors with their investigation, why is he chilling out in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and driving around town in his Land Rover with a mountain bike attached to the back of it?

Is that some new kind of interrogation technique?

Shouldn't he be in Washington D.C. in a room somewhere answering a simple list of questions? How long does that take? Years? Oh, I forgot, he's paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to his lawyers and working the living shit of the system to his advantage. Again.

Nevermind.

What a great show this whole thing is turning out to be.

A few more republicans in jail, especially DeLay and any Senator (Burns will do), will have a very salutary effect on the remaining and future Republicans. Isn't Tobin in jail too? Maybe these guys will figure out that public power is not a game nor their personal toy. It's our money. Not theirs.

does anyone other than me think that Abramoff's ego is going to spur him to do as much as he can to indict everyone? He's got nothing to lose and could develop a conscience in jail.

Conscience? It's all ego. As long as that guy can keep himself in the news...and later a movie deal, etc, etc.

With everything going on with what seems to be an obstruction of justice/conspiracy case over the firing of the attorneys, I have to wonder:

Are the federal prosecutors who are sifting through Abramoff and all of the so-far unnamed Members of Congress who may have some guily toeing the line and playing ball (unlike the USA's who were fired who were interested in justice?).

In this day, one has to wonder if Jack is getting the kid glove treatment - and if his "cooperation" is just a smokescreen.

I'm curious when the Fed's will finally figure out that Abramoff was involved with the gangland style murder of Gus Boulis, the former owner of Sun Cruz, the same person that was sent a bogus wire transfer at the closing in Sept 2000..I guess they're not intereted in that since Gus was under attack himself by the Feds for a faulty vessel registration by a Greek national?

Has anyone seen Mr. Scanlon? He owes me money!
