DC Madam: Stay Tuned to ABC

Speaking outside after a court hearing this morning, the D.C. Madam, Jeane Palfrey, says she expects ABC News to track down more clients of her firm, who she says will serve as "potential witnesses for my defense."

So who's up next? ABC News -- where Brian Ross and TPM alum Justin Rood are on the case -- has Palfrey's phone records for the past four years. This morning, they report that "also on Palfrey's list of customers who could be potential witnesses are a Bush administration economist, the head of a conservative think tank, a prominent CEO, several lobbyists and a handful of military officials."

Expect some of that to come out this Friday, during Palfrey's star turn on 20/20.

Names damn it! I want names!
You bloggers have got me hooked now I need relief!

breathe........ breathe.........
Calm down self.

user-pic

Head of a conservative think tank.....this could be really interesting!

user-pic

So would those be hostile witnesses?

When you think about it, this is a brilliant legal strategy: call a bunch of professional liars in the Haggart tradition. "Nope, no sex here, just some meth that I didn't actually use."

user-pic

"got me hooked now I need relief!"

Pun intended?

user-pic

I just love it when sanctimonious pricks get bagged in salacious sex scandals!

I didn't think this story was going anywhere at first because the only name we had was Dick Morris who everyone already knows is a greasy sleazebag.

No wonder Randall Tobias is nicknamed "Randy"! Odd, however, that he would tell the world about now getting his "massages" from Central Americans.

How about we get up a fund to buy the customer list from the Central Americans for more laughs?

user-pic

Oh my goodness! It's Christmas in April ! Why yes Virginia, there IS a Santa Clause, and her name is Jeane.

user-pic

I don't know, this has me very uneasy. Activities between consenting adults are simply no one's business. I suppose the line can be drawn where an individual professes to be a faithful married person and/or tells other people to do the same, while using the Madam's services. I keep thinking of the Clinton impeachment horror and I hate to see anything similar happen (even to a Republican!)

user-pic

Call me when this turns into a gay sex scandal.

Ever since Mark Foley my standards have risen too high.

user-pic

Call me when this turns into a gay sex scandal.

Ever since Mark Foley my standards have risen too high.

user-pic

Isn't Perle the head of conservative think tank?

As for her cryptic comments, does anyone have ANY idea what she's thinking? Can anyone think of a sinister reason that the Bush DOJ would investigate a hooker service that's servicing its own employees?

user-pic

What a surprise, the head of a conservative think tank uses an escort service.

user-pic

as Josh (I think it was) pointed out -- don't sharpen your knives just yet, sex scandals are bipartisan.

user-pic

You know, don't get too happy. Sex scandals tend to cross party lines quite a bit. This is all just going to distract from bigger issues.

user-pic

Me, I'm looking forward to the teim a little further down the line when they get their message straight and start to blame the escorts as they brazen this thing out.

I'm so looking forward to Hindraker and Reynolds and the tools at Free Republic explaining this aaway.

Hey, we're in a war, people need some relief. If it wasn't for all the brazen sluts around here, this wouldn't have happened. It's Clinton's fault, he made this acceptable, and if the American people had only gotten behind his impeachment I'd've left mine in my pants.

user-pic

i think we need to form a betting pool for possible clients. let me know when i put some money down on Kristol.

user-pic

Ah! I think I get it. She trying to give herself Natalie Holloway/Scott Peterson name recognition. If she starts to dominate the Nancy/Greta circus, some hotshot ambulance chaser like Geragos will take her case pro bono for the publicity. Then she can get a 7 figure book contract.

Okay, let's have the names. Why is Justin holding out on us?

user-pic

You bloggers have got me hooked now I need relief!

Happy endings are extra.

user-pic

>I'm so looking forward to Hindraker and Reynolds >and the tools at Free Republic explaining
>this aaway.

they're probably on the list!

user-pic

"As for her cryptic comments, does anyone have ANY idea what she's thinking?"
---
She's looking for "potential witnesses for my defense."

Her defense is that there was no sex, or if there was, she didn't know about it because it was against the rules.

Tobias has said that he ordered massages and there was no sex. Sounds like she's looking for a lot of high-profile witnesses that are going to say there was no sex.

user-pic

How would you just love to see on that list? In increasing order:

Tony Snow
Bill Kristol
Condi Rice

user-pic

Remember the tortured explanation of "no sex" with President Clinton.

Since the GOP has been on a "Cinton did it too" tirade lately, Tobais' and others definition of "no sex" could be very interesting, indeedy.

user-pic

Lettuce,

They're already going after the escorts. The story has said that they DOJ is only going after the women. They seem completely uninterested in the clients. That's the whole reason she's going with ABC and trying to out the list. If the DOJ doesn't go after the clients, she can call them to testify that nothing happened. Then the DOJ is in a bind, because if they're claiming something did happen, why no charges against the guys?

user-pic

Even if Democrats are outed as having used the escort service, their constituents are more likely to be open-minded when voting because Democrats are more open to sexual issues (not to mention more lucky where sex is concerned, hahaha. I doubt many Democrats have to pay). Republicans on the other hand are the party that preaches moral and family values, abstinence, and are therefore more likely to be hit hard in the voting booth. It only makes sense that Republicans are more likely to have to pay for sex. ROFLMAO!

PS: I can't resist...my code word was "tight." ROFLMAO!

user-pic

SkippyFlipjack - credit where credit is due - that was David Kurtz...and agreed. Also, I hope only the most hypocritical of the bunch get in hot water over this.

user-pic

Why did the 'pundits' totally ignore this yesterday when three networks heard from Rice? w/both Tobias and Wolfowitz 'out' of US foreign aid leadership...this is Big News? Bill Moyers programs, especially the interviews w/Jon Stewart, & Josh have me looking at 'mainstream media' w/more horror. ...so it goes...

user-pic

Please let it be Grover. Please let it be Grover.

user-pic

What we shoudl really concentrate on is the men. The escorts that are male i mean. Were any hired for dusty foggo and his friends? What were the neams of multiple escorts for cunningham? I wonder if any of them cane fro her service?

user-pic

While I'd like nothing more than to see every illegal, unethical and truly immoral practice by the neocons exposed (and there are innumerable such practices), it bothers me that, once again, we're invading people's privacy by publicizing matters that are essentially harmless and unrelated to their performance in their professions, careers, etc.

user-pic

It seems like a pretty good strategy to me. If the crime she's being prosecuted for is facilitating the exchange of sex for money (I'll pass on the marriage jokes..) then producing customer after customer after customer who says, "There was no sex, just conversation and massage." seems like a good defense.

And I disagree that this is exclusively, or even primarily, a sex scandal. Exchanging sex for money is a crime. Right or wrong, it is. If we can't get them for the organized crime let's get them for tax evasion.

To tie the two thoughts together, Palfrey is the one who IS currently in jeopardy from all this. If she needs/wants to out her clients as part of her defense, it's her right. If the names of those clients are public figures, engaged in criminal behavior then the public should know.

FYI - Using a prostitute is also a violation of the Uniform Code of Military justice, independent of any local laws, so those military officers are in double trouble.

user-pic

>Please let it be Grover.

That's the name I was trying to remember! By the way, I agree that none of this should be illegal or used to ruin careers, unless, like Tobias, the person is hypocritically advocating using the govt. to butt into other people's private lives.

That said ... PLEASE LET IT BE GROVER!!!

user-pic

"I don't know, this has me very uneasy. Activities between consenting adults are simply no one's business. Posted by: pixie"

No, Pixie

The line is drawn when you "pay" for sex. Sex between consenting adults of just about any stripe is legal as long as both parties (or more) involved consent to it,(therby making rape illegal, because one party did not consent) unless money is exchanged.

user-pic

good thing the repuglicans "don't recall remembering anything like that"

otherwise, there just might be some worried repuglicans out there

user-pic

@April 30, 2007 12:37 PM

"... we're invading people's privacy by publicizing matters that are essentially harmless and unrelated to their performance in their professions, careers, etc..."

I disgree. In his official capacity, Randall Tobias promoted global abstinence, rather than condoms, to prevent the spread of AIDs.

Randall Tobias's personal conduct is prima facie evidence that the Bush administration's ideas about AIDS prevention are not only fucking useless but dangerous.

We all know Tobias was having sex with sex workers but Tobias is a sanctimonious prick who insists he only got massages. What we need is testimony from the women patronized by Tobias as to what services were sold to him.

Randall Tobias is not an honest man and he should never have been in government service. He spouted off about abstinence and AIDS so he could be a global big shot, not because he believed what he preached.

Ms. Palfrey is performing a public service for her country and the world.

user-pic

> Activities between consenting adults are simply no one's business.

No, not in this case. If you're a person that breaks the law and goes to a prostitute, you've put yourself in a compromising position.

Suppose you're a high-ranking government official that has visited prostitutes. One day, one of the prostitutes wants to blackmail you, but instead of wanting money, they want information and you're a person that knew government secrets. Then this is no longer an issue of sex, but of national security.

user-pic

@ Mrs P.

"...Ms. Palfrey is performing a public service for her country and the world..."

In addition to the public service (servicing?) to her GOP clients, that is.

user-pic

Two questions: What happened to DOJ's March "Motion for a Gag Order" re: client lists; and
since Jeffrey Taylor is now USAG for the D.C. Circuit, why didn't he pull the plug on this investigation? I thought he was a true believer.
Thanks.

@April 30, 2007 12:59 PM

That, too. Who's your pick for the head of a conservative think tank? I can't get all that excited about Grover Norquist paying for sex - I think he was a bachelor during most of the period in question.

How about Paul Weyrich?

user-pic

Does anyone else worry about this woman's safety? There's no way the GOP will just allow her to name names.
Also, this shouldn't be called "HookerGate" since it puts all the shame on the women involved, rather than the male customers who involved themselves w/o a trace of coercion, as they could've either had sex w/ consenting women not on the payroll or, of course, masturbate to appease themselves. They bought these women simply for control while you doubt the women chose this "profession" w/o some sort of pressure, likely financial (Who grows up wanting to be a prostitute?). Perhaps "JohnGate" instead.

user-pic

My question is why the feds went after a DC madam with an operation that big that had been going so long. News reports say she had 135 women working for her as escorts and the business had been ongoing since the early 90's.That's a lot of johns. Any investigation into that is bound to turn up some embarrassing names for either party. To me, this investigation seems like they took a baseball bat and smashed a big hornet's nest.

Also, the fact that the agency specialized in educated women (ABC says a number of the escorts were themselves employed in prominent or powerful jobs) is intriguing. You have to assume that the kind of information these escorts would aquire about very powerful men would be of high value to any number of people. You also have to wonder if other parties were paying these escorts for that info. There are any number of spy-vs-spy scenarios that could have been in play.

user-pic

@Mrs. P - 01:10 PM

I actually hope it's not Grover. Why? He's detached and shameless enough that an accusation like this would be a drop in the bucket -- I mean, c'mon, the guy is involved with terrorist finance and Islamic banks.

No, it needs to be GOP standard bearer -- someone for whom both "fantasy" and "discreet" were major selling points.

People I'd like to see on the list:
Bob Novak
Bill Kristol

user-pic

I have no problem with anyone who says, "Whatever any of us does closed doors with another consenting adult is our own business". That's a personal matter, and one of concience.

I DO, however, have a TREMENDOUS problem with anyone who says "DON'T" while they "DO", especially if they claim moral superiority over anyone ELSE who "DOES"

And I admit a certain degree of satisfaction when a blatant hypocrite gets properly and publicly humbled.

Anyone care to take any bets on how many names from the list will be some of the same people who had a lil hissy fit about Clinton's private sex life?

user-pic

I bet these freaky dudes are wishing they never got that Viagra prescription now!
Code word: soap
As in I'm gonna need a lot of soap to wipe off the muck of this scandal.

user-pic

Names on the List:

Gonzales
Sampson
Rove
Griffin
etc.

btw..I wouldn't worry 'bout Madame's safety...giving the book to ABC is her insurance.

user-pic

Novak, Kristol, Perle, who cares, as long as it's one of them.

user-pic

Fred Thompson, that's who I'd like to see on the list.

user-pic

"GOPgate'

user-pic

Didn't Rush Limbaugh just say Madame Palfrey just had to be a LIBERAL?.....oh, no, that was the mass murderer.

user-pic

Just an observation, but it appears that ABC News is holding the story for sweeps, even though they've got the info already. Expect heavy, heavy promotion of 20/20 this week.

And if you're in pain waiting for the names to come out, imagine how the names feel.

user-pic

They've been saying there are girls on the list (as in former escorts) who are now in positions of government. I wonder who.... Mayeb Goodling? Nah. I bet it's Abramoff's assistant who went to work for Rove- what was her name??? Susan Ralston? She's got that whole exotic, Asian-ish look that johns would go crazy for. "Happy Ending, Mr. Norquist? Teehee."

I'd personally like to see it be Grover as the head of the think tank. He's such a tool. It'd be great payback for screwing with Big Dog. Unfortunately, I'd believe from looking at his pic that he'd be more into young boys. He's got that S&M, bear thing going on a bit and he does have a thing for Hoover. *shiver*

user-pic

IIRC Billie Kristol is rumored to be gay, so if he's caught up in this it could be rather interesting hypocrisy all around.

I think during the Clinton impeachment there was some anonymously sourced stuff published about Republicans and one or two major Beltway prostitution rings. As I recall, the Kansas and Nebraska (all GOP) House delegations, all drab Heartland family values warriors, were mentioned as an infamously horny bunch.

user-pic

Just out of curiousity: how did Tobais get security clearance at the SoS office with that in his past? Seriously, the whole thing makes him a HUGE security risk.

And this isn't the first time- there was that guy at DHS with the kiddie porn, Jeff Gannon/Guckert, etc.. Something's really off in that division. Do we need yet another congressional investigation in to WTF is happening over there?

user-pic

As to WHY the BushCo JD would investigate the DC Madam, the answer is two-fold: 1) they LIKE being holier than thou (it appeals to their base[r instincts]); and, 2) it was raised by Lam in her probe of extensions in the Duke Cunningham case -- the poker games with hookers leading to resignations by Porter Goss and (was it?) Frogo at the CIA. I'm sure the JD thought that dear Madam Palfrey would just roll over and play dead. Of course they weren't interested in the customers; it's the customers they thought they would be protecting.

And, as someone has already pointed out, her defense is brilliant: subpoena the johns and have them testify on her behalf. I'll guarantee you that there was NEVER any sex involved with any of them -- they just wanted someone to talk to because their repressed wives were so not understanding -- that and a few innocent massages. Why else would one call Domino's, um, er, whatever....

user-pic

Oh, and Grover. Also gay. Saith David Brock.

user-pic

Do you think we might also learn who JimmyJeff Gannon-Guckert was banging in the White House as well? In addition to taking oral dick-tation from someone there (Rove?), "Bulldog" probably was giving something as well. So maybe ABC will now do its job and show us what was going on with the gay prostitute alongside Palfrey's straight whores.

Glad someone explained to Pixie the difference between consensual, legal sexual relations (Clinton-Lewinsky), and illegal sexual relations (these Pamela Martin prostitutes and the male whores in the GOP, like moralist Tobias). Also, since Democrats usually are harping on sexual morality and condemning people, their supporters usually don't get so worked up. The GOP under W Bush is anti-women, anti-gay, anti-adult pornography, anti-condoms, anti everything that most people believe in. So it's great that they'll be outed for the hypocrites they are. I just hope more of the ultra-moralists turn up on this list.

user-pic

I would like to coin a term for what I am currently experiencing.

It is what I would have to call a "schadenfreude stiffy" and it just will NOT go down.

That, mixed with the anticipation of completion is making me a nervous wreck.

I guess I'll have to visit to FARK or News of the Weird while I wait.

user-pic

If looking for which women might be involved, I'd suggest considering those in communications roles and various State Dept. positions. It would seem easier to place someone with personal charm and a general education in such places than in technical or highly wonkish areas.

Maybe I'm getting old, but the honey quotient in the Bush Admin. is much higher than I remember in the Cinton or Bush I years. This scandal might show why.

user-pic

Was Mrs. Tobias at the condo when the "gals" came over? Is the condo his home or some in town hideaway?

user-pic

Hee hee hee, hee hee hee hee hee.

I don't know about you, but I've *paid* to see this part of the show.

I've had to endure the results of two stolen national elections. I've had to put up with a stupefying level of cronyist corruption that's seeped so far down that it's affected everything -- from how we go to war, to the rise of a class that dosen't know the difference between wage-earners and slaves, to how little body and Humvee armor's been given to our Soldiers and Marines, to lax food-quality enforcement that results in tainted gluten and exposure to carcinogenic chemicals.

I've watched people of color literally dying on their own rooftops in a lake of toxic water, while a low, cunning fool says, "We won't forget New Orleans", and then does. I've watched fat white men feel good about their bigotry and greed, right on national television -- generally on programs which assume Americans yearn to be like them.

I expect to see weeks of film clips of men and women with their Yve St. Laurent jackets over their heads, refusing to answer questions barked at them by MSM 'reporters'. I want to see humiliation, and professional reputations harmed, and endless recycling of old news photographs of members of the Bush administration on CNN.

I bought popcorn. Let's get on with the show.

Code = bucket (As in, Large Family-Size With No Butter)

user-pic

Should read: "Democrats usually AREN'T harping on sexual morality..."

user-pic

I agree with Mrs. P. What we need is some of these girls (or guys) to come forward - as happened in the Haggard case.

Whistle blowers is what we need - and yes, there could be puns in there!

The word is "glove." Maybe they did it with gloves on? Or, if the glove fits....

user-pic

I can guess why the DOJ went after Palfrey even though she has been operating in the DC area for many years. The DOJ wanted her records as evidence to embarrass Democrats who used her services. But the DOJ never expected Palfrey to fight back.

user-pic

Ah, I love German food! Schadenfreude for all my friends here!

user-pic

how about a senator from Minnesota? lord knows his father likes the ladies of the street... and the aforementioned was oft seen in the company many ladies of questionable company back in his Mayor of St. Paul days (that is when he wasn't hitting on airline stewardesses, drooling over sign language instructors or harassing women in the detroit airport on 9-11)

user-pic

Does anybody here actually trust ABC News with that list of names and numbers? Who's to say that they didn't buy it from Palfrey in order to protect their own executives, reporters and political allies?

user-pic

Oh, please, please, please, Mitch McConnell. That plastic wife of his is even more stoned than Laura. And a boy. Make it a boy.

Karl, definitely, and also boys.

Sam "There are no homosexuals in the history of my family" Brownback, with boys.

Oh, Oh, Oh! Joe Lieberman. With girls AND boys. At the same time. With whips, wearing SS uniforms and swastika tattoos.

God, now I need a cigarette.
