Gonzales: Iglesias Added to List "on Election Day"
Well, here's something new. During questioning from House Judiciary Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) about David Iglesias' firing, Alberto Gonzales volunteered that Iglesias was added to the list on "Election Day, November." Up till now, it's been unclear when Iglesias made the list -- though it was known to be sometime in October or November.
It's been reported that Sen. Pete Domenici (R-NM) called Karl Rove "at some point after the election" to ask that Iglesias be fired. Does that mean that something else had already placed him on the list? We know that Karl Rove and President Bush had already complained to Gonzales about Iglesias' handling of voter fraud cases earlier in October.
Update: Gonzales added later that he didn't know exactly when Iglesias was "selected" to be on the list. But he said that Iglesias first appeared on the firing list on Election Day.

Just a coincidence, didn't have anything better to do at DOJ than add U.S. Attorneys to the to-be-fired list. Nothing to do with not indicting any Dems before Election Day.

Bobh...I think you are being a tad unfair...what he said is that he's aware of not recollecting what he recollects recollecting, which is apparently is lack of awareness. We have to give the Gonzo his due.

Suddenly now he remembers what day he was added?
OK, some questions:
How does he know he was added that day? Did he see a list? Was somebody showing him a list day-to-day as it changed? Who showed him the list?
And, of course, if he knows what day Iglesias was added, how can he not know _who_ put him on the list?

Here's a question I wish someone would ask Gonzo -
"Mr. Attorney General, earlier today you said you had no additional recollections to add to your original testimony before this committee. Clearly the news that Mr. Iglesias was added to the firing list on Election Day is news to us. So the question is, did you just happen to recall that little detail or did you perjure yourself this morning when you said you had no additional recollections to add?"

1) Adam Schiff ROCKS! I'd forgotten he was in Justice before he got the Glendale CA seat away from the republicans.
2) Artur Davis knows how to TAKE NO SH*T from Gonzo. Excellent press on the AG.
3) WHO is the blonde hottie sitting next to Artur Davis? She looks smart, class, and well worth talking to after..well, afterwards.
Security word 'white' as in "Wave the white flag, and we won't send you to Gitmo, Gonzo"

So on election day Gonzales reviewed the list?
Really?
By saying this is he trying to give some cover for Dominici and/or Rove by backdating the addition of Iglesias to the list, so that it is not so obviously connected with retaliation for not filing indictments against Democrats right before the election?
Or was it just a Fruedian slip, because this firing scandal really is all about influencing elections?
For someone who claims to have been so out of the loop about the process and who was deciding what and how and when, he did seem awfully sure about that little detail.

Targeted officials- 85% Democratic, 12% Republican
But perish the thought that there is politicization in the Justice Department. The Dems really stepped it up in this second session- I give them a solid B overall.

Some one on the Committee should ask the obvious:
"Has this Election Day list you're referring to been produced to Congress, along with all e-mails relating to it?"

Wait a minute. AG AG says he wasn't involved in making the list, that he could not even remember the meeting when he approved the list but now he lets slip that he can remember the very day that Iglesias was added to the list (i.e., election day). Seems to me that AG is admitting that HE decided to add Iglesias to the list *on Election Day* (the reason being political pressure from Dominici and/or Rove).

Could this election day list be one of the e-mails that, according to Murray Waas, Gonzalez has seen but have not been produced to the committee? If so, Gonzalez has problems...

What he meant to say was that Karl didn't show him the list until the day after Election Day. So he assumed the list was revised the day before. A simple misunderstanding ... of the Constitution.
Geez, isn't anybody in Texas scared that this guy is gonna go home in 2009 and be a bigshot Texas lawyer?

Laugh of the Day:
During the debate of "following the breadcrumbs," Gonzales can't help talking like the smart aleck he is when he responds to Rep. Conyers remark about "following the breadcrumbs" by saying "you have more breadcrumbs than I." Absolutely not to be outdone, Conyers replies, "Your spoke to Karl Rove. That's a pretty big breadcrumb."
Whatever you may think of Gonzales' testimony, one's thing's for certain: he's a real smartass.

Adding Iglesias to the list "on election day" covers for both Domenici and Rove, who had a conversation "sometime after the election" about Domenici's desire that Rove be fired.
Thing is, it's stupid. How can someone who professes to know nothing about a list or how it was made or who put people on it somehow suddenly remember that a specific person was placed there on a specific day?
Doubt, as in I seriously doubt this story.

Toast and Crumbs.
That's how Iglesias got on the list. Someone had a piece of toast that they couldn't eat on election day because the profile of George Bush had appeared on the toast, as if by a miracle. The list was offered up to the toast, and a sprinkling of breadcrumbs showered down upon the list and lo, the name Iglesias sprung forth, like unto a Slinky, springing from step to step.
Or at least, something that looked like an I and maybe an l or an s.
In any event, this explains how Iglesias' name appeared on the list and how Gonzales lost his breadcrumbs.
Over time, the profile of George Bush rearranged itself into a depiction of the President's hands. The toast was then framed and given to Josh Bolten. Which explains why everyone is so confused - no one at DOJ has the toast anymore.

This is really a slow rolling -but extremely destructive train wreck the Neo Cons, Domininist , & other assorted thugs and neverdowells have caused the GOP to be involved in-All this Crap we have seen before down here in Texas. The really good news is that TurdBlossom & BushCo in general have been exposed as the Frauds & Corrupt Bullies that they really are - Even some of the most conservative state legislators here in Austin are now openly speaking about how to take back the GOP from this Bush Criminal Enterprise.
This Corruption of our Democratic Process is now becoming a non partisan issue. It will be edifying to watch if the true Conservatives can actually save the GOP from this ongoing derailment engineered by the TurdBlossom train crew,
Remember too that the Tom DeLay piece of this GOP self immolation is also still very much alive - with clear ties back to Earmarks,Bribes, and Campaign Contributions. The GOP State leadership is wishing that they never got involved with the K Street Project -such as the illegal redistricting that DeLay forced on Texas.
