Smile! You're Under Federal Investigation!
Check out some snapshots from the Caribbean cruise businessman Warren Trepp sent Gov. Jim Gibbons (R.-NV) and his wife on in 2005.
Trepp is the founder of eTreppid, a company for which Gibbons helped secure federal contracts while a member of the House. Gibbons is now reportedly under FBI investigation for his involvement with Trepp.
You can see the photos here. (Be sure to scroll down for the group shot.) It looks like a good time.
The pictures accompany an NBC interview with Dennis Montgomery, who raised the bribery allegations in a lawsuit he filed against Trepp, his former business partner, over intellectual property infringement of software he says he created. During the interview, Montgomery describes just how certain he is that Trepp gave Gibbons $100,000 in cash and casino chips on the cruise.
Dennis Montgomery: There was a lot of alcohol and a lot of drinking. And that's when I first saw Warren give Jim Gibbons money.Lisa Myers: How much?
Montgomery: Close to $100,000.
Myers: How can you know?
Montgomery: Because he gave him casino chips and cash.
Myers: Are you sure about what you saw?
Montgomery: I'm absolutely, positively sure.

Isn't it wonderful to see someone benefiting from government spending. I mean, he looks like he's having a really, really great time. How wonderful to see my tax dollars at work. I live in Nevada and I certainly hope to see the Republican-owned newspapers of our state publish these wonderful photographs. For some reason, they seem to ignore Jim Gibbons. It is ashame, because if people could just see how electing Republicans can lead to so much joy and celebration....

Damn DB the right has such has standards nowadays, its either molestation, homosexual prostitutes or bribery with those guys. I'd have to say I'd choose bribery too. :(

I can forgive a lot of greed and corruption, but I'm not sure I can forgive "eTreppid," which has got to be one of the all-time worst names ever.

Notice how most of these people seem to be at least in their 40's if not 50's. Is his wife the matronly one in the lime green looking backwards at him? Republicans gettin' jiggy - blech.
Maureen Dowd should do a column on how she admires GOP men because when they're let loose like this it's physically revolting - therefore unthreatening.
Aargh. A 40-ish bachanal should not be recorded on film. They should show this to teenagers in Juvie to get them to embrace celibacy.

This is hilarious, if the source for the MSNBC story is telling the truth:
In addition, Montgomery provided NBC with hundreds of e-mails, he says, from Trepp's computer.
Days before the cruise, Trepp's wife e-mails her husband: "Please don't forget to bring the money you promised Jim and Dawn on the trip."
Hours later, Trepp e-mails back: "Don't ever send this kind of message to me! Erase this message from your computer now!"
Funny, the security code I have to enter to post this is "shame".

Serious question: Was US Attny Daniel Bogden looking into this? Might this be why he was fired?
It's easy to simply allege a connection, but, anyone know for sure?

Really, the fact that he's out being a human being and having a good time is nothing that should be criticized. His taking of money for a possible quid pro quo definitely should be the focus of coverage. But come on. Who cares if he's out having a drink on a cruise and partying with women? Are politicians not supposed to be human?
This seems a little below the level of what I expect from TPM.

So now in addition to trying to purge the horrific image of Doolittle reading while sitting on the toilet, I have a drunken Gibbons trying to hit on bleach blonde 18 year olds dancing around singing "Hot, Hot, Hot.." in a conga line.
How did these idiots get away with so much for so long given what complete and total boneheads they are?

Those Gibbons love them some travel! From the same page at link above is this:
(Gibbons won't turn over receipts for trip to Turkey.)
Lawyers for Governor Jim Gibbons say they won't release documents that they say show the governor and his wife paid their share of a vacation the couple took with a federal defense contractor to Turkey.
A spokesman for the lawyers confirmed Gibbons and his wife Dawn traveled to Turkey in 2000 with three other couples, including Fatih and Eren Ozmen.
The Ozmens own a military defense firm that sought millions in federal contracts while Gibbons was a congressman serving on the House armed services and intelligence committees.

"What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas"
Unfortunately for Gibson, the capital is in Carson City. Besides, Vegas is the Democratic stronghold for the entire state. He wouldn't find much comfort there.

There's something about these GOP nerds who may have missed a youth that included willing young ladies and an occasional roll in the hay.
They go apeshit in their 40s and 50s when they open their wallets and experience a bimbo eruption.

I also wonder if Bogden got the boot because he was looking into some allegations concerning G-Dawg. That would certainly make the Attorney story far more interesting for the general public- the Dems should look into a possible connection. But what's even more puzzling to me is why the hottie in the lower right hand corner is kicking it with those geriatrics.

man, cougar-fest!
GQMartinez- normally I'd agree with you, but it was the Republicans who decided to try to be the (hypocritical) "Values" party. Photographs of demonstrating said hypocrisy are just fine with me.

Wow, the life of hypocritical Repubs and the women they cavort with:)
On a more serious note, Lisa Meyers report was very serious if true. It's alleged Gibbons accepted at least 100k in bribes/cash bribes.
These days one doesn't have to throw a rock very far to hit a crooked Republican member of Congress, the Bush Administration, or RNC.
And they have the nerve to speak about morality and ethics when invoking Bill Clinton's name into virtually every conversation? Yes, that's nerve.

Isn't this playa the same guy who was hanging out with a couple honeys at a hotel bar and one of them claimed he attacked her later in the evening but she had credibility problems. Regardless, gotta love the fine citizens of Nevada deciding to elect a married Bushie who was hitting on babes at a bar. So much for Republicans and their "values". Just a bunch of lowdown hypocrites.

Makes one think about all the gambling that Repugs do for fun, since passing chips is so easy; Bob Ney just happened to win 34K playing poker, this guy gets a few handfuls of chips, Abramoff was trying to hone in on gambling everywhere...
Now I wonder whether this is the way all of them get their kickbacks, a stack of chips at a time.
And William Bennett -- did he get payola with chips?

Think republicans have changed the values party to war on "terrer" party. KO showed Jeff Gannon's pics on his show..the crotch was covered for our morals..of course, Didn't mention he spent the night in the WH at least 200 times and he spent 2 years in the WH press corpse without the investigative reporters knowing it. I think GWB doesn't care what WE think. ..but sits around and laughs his ass off at the peasants.
