Rep. William Jefferson Pleads Not Guilty
Rep. William Jefferson (D-LA) pled not guilty today to 16 federal charges related to 11 separate bribery schemes.
Video of Jefferson saying: "Im going to fight my heart out to clear my name," is on the way.
Jefferson's case became famous when federal investigators found nearly $100,000 in cash in his freezer. He allegedly took the money from an FBI informant in a scheme to bribe a Nigerian official.
The judge has set a trial date for Jan. 16, 2008.

Yesterday, the Philadelphia Daily News was taken aback at the news that Curt Weldon's firm will be investigating corruption in Bangladesh (link below).
No wonder. Defense Solutions LLC has absolutely no experience investigating corruption. Defense Solutions is in the business of lobbying the DoD on behalf of defense contractors and is an interntaional arms dealer.
Weldon, btw, was in Bangladesh in March as a representative of the "Global Alliance for Homeland Security" which was registered in September '06 and apparently is run out of an apartment in Woodside, Queens.

Quick site heads up - the Muck doesn't appear to be updating on the TPM front page. It's still stuck on Document Dump from Wednesday... which made me think the Muck wasn't being updates. Likely a scripting issue.

INQUIRY: I know that if Jefferson were a Republican, he'd be checking into rehab within the next two and a half to three weeks . . . But he is a Democrat.
Does anyone remember what corrupt Democrats do?
Outside of a sex scandal, the last thing I remember was that franking privileges thingy two decades ago . . . Democrats usually get exhonorated. Does this mean Willie might be innocent?

I'm not a democrat...It's just odd that republicans did not want Jefferson's computer etc. seized from his office. Jefferson is saying the FBI gave him that $100,000. Republicans who are indicted seem to walk around free and never go to trial. Ken Lay supposedly died. Right. bet he is in Argentina.
