Doolittle: "I Am Running Again. Period."

Did you think that little things like a federal investigation, a crowd of Republican challengers and dismal poll numbers would keep Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) from running for reelection?

You were wrong.

good spend lots of money losing and then we will all laugh

It it should be fun to watch him run an election from the big house with all of his new roomeez. Sounds like a sit com in the making.

Might have fair elections in the Ca. '08 election too.

user-pic

Well, he got his period, so at least we know he's not pregnant.

user-pic

Sounds like a great opportunity for the Democrats to pick up a seat.

user-pic

We continue to forget that in popularity contests, such as movies and politics, the number of people who recognize your name is the important goal, not whether it is good or bad publicity.

This guy's got enough name recognition he will probably sweep the election.

If he happens to end up in court and is convicted before elections come around, all he'll have to do is sign autographs during the proceedings and he'll probably get the votes of over half the folks there.

Looking for an example proving the point? Google the name "Bush"

user-pic

He's an idiot.

He barely won his last election, and that was before the FBI investigation surfaced. He is very beatable.

user-pic

can you say; "legal defense fund"? This is the criminal part. that idiot constituents are even allowed to pay for his lawyers. Our lousy congress decided it was better to allow themselves to use their campaign money for legal defense.
that is the crime. if it weren't legal for him to do this, he would have no reason at all to run again, knowing he will be indicted before the election.
this is a law that needs to be changed, and NOW. But we have only congress to change a law that protects them. anyone want to bet if they are going to change the law?

Doolittle's an idiot, alright. But he won election last time with these very same ethic charges over his head. All he had to do was utter the words "Jane Fonda" and "Sean Penn". Never, ever underestimate the party loyalty of his GOP voters in the district. His chief GOP challenger will probably be one of his familiar, Placer Co. cronies, guaranteeing that nothing will change, policy wise. For a Democrat to win would be about as likely as Kucinich winning Utah....but one can dream.

user-pic

A gift from the God of Arrogant Politicians. If doolittle wins, even though voters know what he has done, those voters need mandatory lobotomies.

They are stunning, aren't they. We have nine year olds running our government. Unevolved, spoiled, stupid, selfish, anti-introspective dark
men with dark aspirations...who are incapable of seeing anything past their infantile selves and
cronies. There is no country in their minds.
Nothing is for the good of the country. There is no statesmanship. No integrity---integrity to even STEP DOWN. Even Nixon STEPPED DOWN.

Will the U.S. recover from being cast deep into this well. I fear not. Too many crooks are in the
pool now.

They have essentially converted our government into a Mafia.

To the Fox Republicans who think that their party is not bigoted:

We have Senator Craig caught redhanded in fashioning a statement concerning his future plans that is a blatant lie. On the voicemail he mistakenly left on a stranger's answering machine, the Senator told his lawyer to say that it was his intent to resign. He said, however, that Senator Specter supported him not resigning and indicated he hoped to stay in office. Craig's statement that he intends to resign was far less honest than "I did not have sex with that woman" (in case you forget, Clinton's famous line). It's really hard to prove what someone's intent was - you know, what was in his or her heart of hearts. This fool Craig managed to record an admission directing his lawyer to lie for the world to hear. Somehow you don't seem to have any problem with this. I really don't understand how.

Also, the Fox Republican officials and politicians deep sixed Craig shortly after this scandal involving homosexuality emerged. In contrast, they are still huddling around Senator Vitter, a guy who didn't just get caught soliciting, but in fact did the dirty deed on his wife and family countless times, after he pontificated to us about the importance of family values and his wife chastised Hillary saying if she were Hillary she would have cut Bill's thingie off no less.

So let's review. Let's lay it out there for everyone. On the one hand we have Senator A caught soliciting one time. On the other hand we have a Senator B caught using a prostitute countless times. Both Senator A and B deny their actions and still get caught. What happens to Senator A who was merely soliciting sex once, when the sex was homosexual? Trashed and out. Adios bandejo. What happens to Senator B who is busted having sex all over the place with women prostitutes and more women prostitutes? Still there. No problemo.

Please tell me that after this blatantly prejudiced treatment of Senator A and all the anti-gay marriage, anti-gays in the military, tossing officials out of leadership positions when they come out of the closet (e.g. ex-Republican Party Chair Ken Mehlman) and all the other Fox Republican homophobic rhetoric, that the frops don't have a serious problem with homophobia. If somehow you don't think that, again I really don't understand how.

Doolittle defeated Brown by a relatively small margin of 49% to 46% in 2006. That's especially small for a longtime incumbent. Doolittle's investigation troubles have grown worse since that time. He's not a shoe-in to win the 2008 election by any means. Brown will probably run against him again.

Brown throws down the gauntlet.

Brown can beat him here. Doolittle's getting more and more shrill as his hunters move in for the kill. If you think Shrub's hard to hear, try Doolittle, it's nearly unbearable. Defensive, disingenuous, mean, graceless.

Doolittle is spittle to me.

The likes of Doolittle always choose riches over richness?

user-pic

He may be running comma but soon it will be from the cops. period.

I don't think people have fully absorbed what Doolittle was doing by paying his wife 15% of every campaign dollar collected, even ones she had nothing to do with, if indeed she really had anything to do with any of it (her 'company' works out of home).

California is a Community Property state. Doolittle is essentially claiming the right to take a 15% personal commission off the top of every dollar collected and have it deposited into a joint account.

It is one thing to hire your brother-in-law as a campaign driver, or to put your daughter on staff, or even your wife, if that is her salary is commensurate with the salary schedule of the campaign. But using your wife as a front to skim campaign contributions right into your pocket?

Heck half of the Alaska Republican party is headed to the slammer for less blatant theft than that.
