Republican Lawyer Set To Speak With House Panel About Siegelman

The Republican lawyer who implicated Karl Rove in the decision to prosecute former Gov. Don Siegelman (D-AL) will speak privately -- and under oath -- with House Judiciary Committee staff next week about what she knows.

The lawyer, Dana Jill Simpson, gave support to Siegelman's argument that his prosecution and subsequent conviction stemmed from a political vendetta against him.

... in the decision to prosecute former Gov. Don Siegelman (R-AL)...

Siegelman is a Dem

Simpson's charge is serious for Rove, and the GOP -- hence the 'closed session'.

The last thing the GOP wants going into an election year are Congressional hearings starring Fat Karl, and exposing Republican attempts to drive America even further into the category of a Banana Republic...

...and, for example, asking questions about why, in violation of a standing Federal court order, 50-plus of 88 counties in Ohio destroyed all ballots and other material related to the 2004 National election....

That looks verry interesting...

Tell Siegelman's attorney to talk with Scott Horton of Harper's. His interview with Amy Goodman of Democracy Now!

gives a good indication of why Feaga would take this desperate measure. He suggests that the machinations behind Siegelman's prosecution lead back so directly to Rove that it could be the most significant evidence of political maneuverings in the DoJ, per WH direction.

If the US Attorney's office in Birmingham is as dirty as it seems to be, this bluster by Feaga might be his stalling game until he gets the (hoped-for, likely, or even possible?) bailout from Washington.

Desperate men take desperate measures. We need more rewards and rock solid protection for effective whistle blowers.

Certainly puts the timing of turds resignation into perspective. When I first read this story, I thought it might be a bit of a stretch, but wow this thing has legs. It is awesome to be watching the disintergration of bushco.
And as a bonus, if this takes rove down, fredo goes too.

Then, as I recall, her house was burned down.
