GOP Launches Free Harriet! Effort
Nobody said the Republicans were going to take it lying down. From The Politico:
With House Democrats considering a floor vote on a contempt resolution against current and former White House aides, Republicans have begun privately plotting a public relations offensive designed to persuade the majority party to drop the issue and move on.Top GOP leadership and Judiciary Committee staff held a strategy session Tuesday to discuss targeting conservative Democrats — especially those who represent Republican-friendly districts — with floor speeches, private lobbying and other efforts, if Democrats proceed with plans to hold top White House officials in contempt, according to participants in the meeting. Republicans called the emergency session after learning top Democrats were privately asking their members if they should force votes to hold White House Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers in contempt for failing to provide testimony as part of congressional investigations.
The House Judiciary Committee passed the contempt resolutions in July, remember, after Miers failed to even show up (see image of empty seat above) after receiving a subpoena related to the U.S. attorney firings.

I personally believe that Hariett deserves everything the Dems have planned for her. Hell, anyone who would say that Bush is the most intelligent man she knows should undergo treatment for a mental disorder.

at least we know this means the R is scared.
congressional sub poena has to mean something. congress has the power to make the supreme laws of the land. executive privilege is so-named because it applies to the executive. not the entire branch, not the president's staff, not the vice president. condi and bob gates don't invoke executive privilege. it was high satire when sara taylor got called out for saying her oath was to the president, when her oath had actually been to uphold the constitution.
i sincerely hope the democrats don't fold on this. they have the better hand. the stakes are too high; they'll gain enormously if they hold together on this, and they'll lose tremendously if they fold again.
does anyone know which republicans are on record saying the expansion of executive privilege (and other unitary powers) is dangerous? anyone besides ron paul? i know they don't want a democratic president exercising all of this unchecked power...

Send the Congressional police out. Arrest her and Andrew Card. Lock their arses up in one of the Congression cells.
When the Justice Department lawyer show up, tell them that their boss said there there is no right to Habitrail Corpicle (or whatever), arrest the lawyers on contempt of Congress and obstruction of justice charges.
Send the Congresional Pages to the White House with a bookshelf of supeonas . . . Make sure that CSPAN is displaying the kids walking to the House that Bush Destoryed. Call all foreign news agencies and tell them what is happening. Call American news agencies and tell them they are being scooped. Tell FAUX News about it too . . . Just to be fair and balanced.
Issue arrest warrants for President Bush and Crime Boss Cheney. Let Dennis Kucinich be on camera when it happens.
Send the Congressional Police to arrest the Chimp in Charge and the Dark Sith Overlord. Actually arrest then. House to impeach. Senate to try.
Lather, rinse and repeat.
Send Bush and Cheney to the Hague and let the international courts take a shot at justice.
American sales of popcorn and beer and Cheetos will make GNP sore.

Side Note: Ealier Rumsfield flew to France to speech. A group of Americans presented information to a French magistrate and a warrant for his arrest was sworn out.
Rumsfield ducked out the back door of the hotel he was speaking at before the jon-dons could get there and skidaddled to the American Embassy.
This means that there are two European countries he can no longer set foot in without being arrested.
