McConnell Mum on CIA Investigation of IG
Since taking over as director of national intelligence in February, Mike McConnell has prided himself on being more open to the public than most intelligence chiefs. His release in July of thousands of documents of controversial; Cold War-era CIA activities, known as the "Family Jewels" was the biggest declassification in the agency's history.
But no dice getting his reaction to a more recent scandal: CIA Director Michael Hayden's investigation of his agency's own inspector general, John Helgerson. McConnell spokesman Ross Feinstein simply said the director had "no comment" and referred any press inquiries to the CIA. Given the internal agency dispute, it might be helpful to know whether Hayden's boss considers the move appropriate or necessary, but it appears that for now McConnell is keeping his opinion private.

Free press my ass.
Across the board, our "Free Press" has been completely crippled by two freakin' words. No Comment.
"Well you heard the man, he said 'No Comment.' I guess there's nothing more to ask here. May as well hit Krispy Kreme on the way back to the shop, I've got a big afternoon of MySpace surfing before deadline."
There's no other way to get answers from these officials?
You could, for instance, ask that PUBLIC official if he feels any obligation to address PUBLIC concern about the agencies he is responsible for. If he answers that question with "no comment," report the facts:
"The Director of National Intelligence refused to answer when asked if he felt any obligation to address issues of agencies he oversees. When asked if he felt this responsibility was part of his duty as the head of a taxpayer funded office, he again declined to answer. When asked what exactly he felt his publicly mandated duties as Director of National Intelligence were, the DNI refused to answer the question."
Instead we've got 24 hour news overload filled with "No Comment"
What the hell are journalism schools teaching reporters? What the hell kind of values are News Directors and Editors instilling in their operations?

Gee. While McConnell is at maybe he can throw in an investigation of Dusty Foggo and maybe even the former head of the CIA. Porter Goss. How 'bout it Mike? If your going to let the sunshine in, let's do it on all fronts.
