Abramoff Tied GOPer Turns to Former Abramoff Associate for Fundraising

Old habits die hard, I guess.

Rep. Tom Feeney (R-FL) is under investigation for his ties to Jack Abramoff, who's still causing plenty of trouble for Republicans, Feeney and Rep. John Doolittle (R-CA) most of all. A Scottish golf junket with Abramoff in 2003 is the source of Feeney's problems. But even as Feeney tries to put Abramoff far behind him ("There's no relationship") with the help of a legal defense fund, he can't help himself.

Abramoff's old associate Todd Boulanger, The Orlando Sentinel reports, will be co-hosting a $500-a-person fundraiser for Feeney tonight. Boulanger, Abramoff enthusiasts might remember, was among Abramoff's coterie of go-getting young lobbyists at the firm Greenberg Traurig. And Boulanger's go-getting spirit was on full display in an email TPMmuckraker obtained last year, where he urged others in the office to pony up for Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS), who was a fast friend to the firm's clients (he'd "never said 'no'"). In it, Boulanger allowed that Abramoff's team had already delivered thousands in contributions for Cochran, but that wasn't "good enough for the member who keeps the lights turned on here at Greenberg."

The Sentinel notes that Boulanger, who now works at the lobby shop Cassidy & Associates, represents among other clients Freddie Mac; Feeney sits on the House Financial Services Committee. Boulanger gave Feeney $1,250 in contributions in 2005. Though a number of Boulanger's former colleagues are either in prison or under investigation, Boulanger himself appears never to have been a focus of the investigation.

This is the same Tom Feeney who paid Clint Curtis to write vote rigging software to throw votes to Republicans on electronic voting machine.

Clint Curtis signed a legal affidavid that he did so and demonstrated his vote rigging software, how it worked and how you pushed a certain combination of buttons on the screen to switch the totals so Republicans won... not that this would be news - treason yes, for rigging elections, but not news.

The vote rigging software demonstration used to be on YouTube... so why does nobody look at that, why a cover up there?

WARNING

This comment will have little relevance and no redeeming social value.

In the picture, Feeney likes like he's just been caught diddling your cat.

That's a "This isn't what it looks like!" look if I've ever seen one.

someone should also look into any connections with southern strategy group, a lobbying firm with close ties to the republican party in florida. the obvious nod to nixon's infamous "southern strategy" in the firm's name should set off alarm bells.

To me the face suggests "a tippler."

a tippler that diddles cats, not that there's anything wrong with that. always remember IOKIYAR, special rules

To me the face suggests a Sleestak.

I, too, have wondered about the vote rigging. I thought perhaps memory had failed me and it really wasn't Rep. Feeney who arranged that software deal. Which makes me wonder if the Democrats are really in control of Congress. When they were in the minority and had little chance of blocking judicial appointments or curtailing Bush's grab for power, they acted like a true opposition party. But, now that they are in the majority, they seem eager to give Bush and the GOP everything they want despite the fact that the GOP gives them nothing in return. And never a comeback against GOP slander even when they have facts--like the Feeney software deal. Or how about--"we're strong on America and its principles" when accused of being "soft on terror"? Or reminding the GOP of how they cut VA benefits when accused of "not supporting the troops." When they respond by capitulation, they validate the accusations! Are our Democratic leaders really Republicans in disguise?
