All of the Above
Seattle Post-Intelligencer columnist Joe Connelly offers a Don Young (R-AK) quiz for readers (what better way to celebrate Thanksgiving?). A sample:
7) A man renowned for his temper, Young has during 35 years in Congress:a) Waved an oosik, the penis bone of a walrus, at the first woman head of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at a hearing.
b) Loudly argued, during a hearing on trapping and animal cruelty, that leg-hold traps are neither painful nor dangerous -- and put his hand into a trap.
c) Reacted to the effort by a Republican colleague to cut one of his pet projects by yelling across the House floor: "There's always another day when those who fight will be killed, too, and I am very good at that."
d) All of the above.

Wow, he's one scary dude. What I don't understand is how he is allowed to get away with that kind of behavior without being censured.

That oosik might come back to haunt him after he meets his new cellmate Bubba.

And how about the time during an address to an assembly of high school students in Fairbanks he referred to gays as b***-f******? In the uproar following the event, he said "they've heard that before." He eventually did apologize, but I don't think he ever understood why it was a problem.

It's clear that Wooly Mammoths like Don Young and Ted Stevens are used to old-fashioned, face to face combat. Clearly, they are sinking into the tarpit of history, as the Internet Aboriginals overwhelm them with digital rocks and spears.

PBS's "Now" ran a story this week on the corrupt bastard's club/Veco/Alaska politicians which included some of the FBI surveillance tapes and videos. I just caught the end of it, but it's online at:
