McConnell: No
So much for that 30-day extension. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) shot that down for the second time just now, setting the stage for what's sure to be an engaged debate later this week -- which Sen. Reid said will occur "maybe Thursday."

The Dems at the next debate should ask that any republican candidate who supports George Bush and his republican policies,
should wear a
white ribbon
on their lapel
at the following republican debate.
The MSM WOULD GO ABSOLUTELY APESHIT
in anticipation.

This is the fight of the year. Any Presidential candidate that does not step to the front and take this fight to Bush and the republicans does not deserve to be elected. Now is the time to lead, not issue statements.
No to telecom immunity!
No to illegal spying!
No more blank checks!
Top five recipients of phone company lobby money this election cycle:

EMPY ...
you wrote "Top five recipients of phone company lobby money" ... and that is incorrect.
the web page you cite reads:
The numbers on this page are based on contributions from PACs and individuals giving $200 or more. All donations took place during the 2007-2008 election cycle and were released by the Federal Election Commission on Monday, October 29, 2007.
and obama is the only one who has not taken money from PACs.

Edwards is the ONLY candidate that has not taken money from PACs
He hasn't taken them this time. He didn't take them in 2004. He didn't take them during his Senate races.
Clinton and Obama have been getting the largest amount of money from the communications industry this cycle.

my only point is that using phrases like "from the communications industry" or "from lobbists" is either misleading or false. at least for some of those you list. those tallies are from indivuals or PACs. neither are "lobbists" and "from the industry" suggests from the corporations themselves ... since you are implying that these numbers suggest industries trying to buy influence. it isn't that for at least obama, and perhaps edwards (i take your word for it, but i don't know).
i'm suggesting you choose your words more carefully, since the ones you choose are false ... or at least not depicted in the stats you associate with your claim.

Good, let it expire and go back to fisa, which was fine and dealt with the terrorist threats and kept america safe for democracy and was able to tape the islamofascists that want to take away our way of life and was able to prevent the next terrorist attack, which is only days away. They can keep the same rhetoric with fisa. Screw em.

The big issue here is retroactive amnesty for the telcos. This is a very big deal. Because we're talking about civil offenses by the telcos, they're not subject to executive clemency so Bush cannot let them off the hook by issuing a blanket pardon.
As always on FISA stuff, Glenn Greenwald is the go-to guy:

Because we're talking about civil offenses (unlike FISA violations by the admin itself which are felonies) they are NOT subject to executive clemency. So Bush cannot let the telcos off the hook by issuing a blanket pardon as he can his own administration.

So why isn't this simply being reported as "Republicans block bill to allow surveillance of terrorists"?

I am another 'dispirited dem.' Waxman is worried about a baseball player who lied to him. Not Gonzales, Meirs, And all those other agency heads and top political appointees. A goddam baseball player. The country is going to hell in a handbag and they are pursuing trivialities. Reid is being led around by a nose ring stuck in by McConnell and he is doing his bidding. Where does this "Super Majority" come from?" The Republicans didn't have it when they had the majority and they passed all the bullshit that has us holding our noses now. The Dems are so afraid of being afraid they can't stand up to any of them. They practice collegiality and the Republicans practice street fighter politics. I KNOW my politics are in the right place, but my party's aren't.

Stop protecting me by spying on me. Let the law expire, and don't ever bring it up, again.
Give us back the Constitution.
