Reid: Why You Gotta Be Like That?
Bush threatens a veto. Reid replies:
“I'm not sure why the Administration feels the need to issue a veto threat on the foreign surveillance bill when Senate Republicans will not even let it come to the floor for debate. This veto threat is part of a White House strategy to jam the bill through Congress with procedural maneuvers and political gamesmanship. We call on Republicans to allow the legislative process to work so that the Senate can pass a strong bipartisan bill.“Democrats remain committed to giving our intelligence professionals the tools they need while protecting the privacy of law abiding Americans. Unfortunately, Republicans seem more interesting in scoring political points than crafting bipartisan solutions that make America more secure.”

This very bad "Domestic Spying Law" needs to be stopped! It doen't matter if that happens due to Republican obstruction and/or a Bush veto. AG Mukasey and NSA Dir. Mcconell both proven to be less than truthful sources, are pushing the fearmongering. Democrats need do the right thing and let this law die even if they have to fibibuster it until the new extension expires.
America needs a surveillance law that balances the rights of the American people with the needs for American security. This law does not accomplish this end. Let it die at the hands of Bush and the hypocritical Republicans who don't speak or act truthfully, and function from self-interest and not in the best interests of the American people. Senator Reid still seems to believe that he can negotiate with those who have no interest in preserving America's democracy and Constitution. By pusuing his approach Reid will ultimately sell out America.

If Bush wants to veto the surveillance bill, let him.
Come November, the people will remember that Bush and the Republicans believed protecting the country was not nearly as important as protecting their own asses.
