Senate Votes on First Surveillance Bill Amendment

And they've finally started voting! First up is an amendment sponsored by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) that would decrease the bill's sunset from six years to four. Sixty votes are need for the measure to pass. It's unclear when exactly the other measures, including the Dodd/Feingold anti-retroactive immunity provision, will get votes.

We'll let you know what the results are as things develop.

Update: The amendment fails 49-46.

I think they should keep extending the Protect America Act until Bush leaves office. God knows the Dem's don't have the inclination much less the balls to do the right thing.

If they can't get this one passed, none of these amendments are going to pass! I can't figure out what is wrong with Reid. The only reason the republicans would have gone along with up or down votes on these amendments was they knew they had the votes to stop them. The telecoms are going to end up getting their immunity and we are going to get what we always get, nothing!!

So it lost because of 1 vote?

I see Clinton didn't bother to vote

(too busy figuring out how to lend her failing Presidential campaign more money?)

The note above said it took 60 votes to pass, not 50, so you can blame 11 other people, not 1
