After 15 Months, Bush Finally Fills Top Counterterrorism Post

From the AP:

President Bush has chosen veteran prosecutor Ken Wainstein to be his new White House-based homeland security adviser, The Associated Press has learned....

He currently heads the Justice Department's anti-terror efforts. He has also been the top federal prosecutor for the District of Columbia, and the top lawyer at the FBI.

Funny that the appointment should come one day after Newsweek publishes a story on the White House's "friggin' embarrassing" inability to fill the post.

The nation is full of qualified candidates, and we get another partisan whack-job elevated to the post. A top lawyer at the FBI? I would love to get my hands on his resume, and plot his jobline against an event timeline…

And the day after thing? You know this administration doesn't like anything about the 'day after' anything. This selection has been carefully planned an meticulously vetted over the last 15 months. Or, something.

Why doesn't anything surprise me anymore?

Wainstein, eh? The guy who was hanging around at FBI as COS or Gen Counsel while all the NSL violations were going on and being covered up, the guy who "sold" the story of the need to have no oversight wiretap of every American on American soil by their government or else we won't be able to help kidnapped soldiers (and the parallel story that emergency wiretaps take just darn it forever to get), the guy who stood with Mueller as the very few DOJ employees - some stray decent FBI agents- who gave a damn about torture and false information were trying to sound the drums and made sure nothing happened - that Ken Wainstein?

No big surprise that Bush has winnowed his pool for selection down to a very few cess men.

It took President Bush 15 months to find someone to fill this post? Was he short on lackeys? Guess this is further proof to how seriously Bush takes fighting terrorism.
