EPA Overrules Scientists, Lowers Smog Standard Only Slightly
It's gotten to be almost a dog bites man story. The EPA has overruled its staff once again. From The Washington Post:
The Environmental Protection Agency has decided to lower the allowable amount of smog-forming ozone in the air to 75 parts per billion, a level significantly higher than what the agency's scientific advisers urged for this key component of unhealthy air pollution, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.The new smog rules -- one of the most important environmental decisions President Bush will make during his final year in office -- will be a major factor in determining the quality of the air Americans will breathe for at least a decade....
Nearly a year ago, the EPA's Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee reiterated in writing that its members were "unanimous in recommending" that the agency set the standard no higher than 70 parts per billion and that the agency should consider reducing ozone levels to as low as 60 parts per billion. Public health advocates, including the American Lung Association, have lobbied for a 60-parts-per-billion ozone limit.
Remember that leaders of the union representing EPA staff have already withdrawn from a cooperation agreement with political appointees there out of protest of just this sort of thing.
The EPA was under a court order to produce a decision by tomorrow. The actual announcement of the new standard is expected later today.

These assholes are amazing.

I have long, long pondered why the rich, the capitalists, the fascists, the corporatists, the white ruling class....can we settle on an easy name that means all these groups?
Anyways I have long pondered what their endgame is. Enslaving us all? Check! Farm the lower classes like vegetables? Check! Mine the lower classes like minerals and coal and oil? Check! Hover over them like a cloud, fill their heads with nonsense. Buy up all the radio and tv outlets and control what they think. CHECK! Addict them to credit cards, and control the message in america that what you own is WHO YOU ARE. YOU ARE NOTHING without all these goodies, and guess what? Next week all THOSE goodies will be blaise and old-fashioned and you have to re-stock on all your goodies. CHECK! Now Get Back To Shopping or the trrrrrsts will win.
Soil the planet, destroy it's systems for pure air and water and food. CHECK! Taint the man made food supply at every turn. Use plastic wherever possible! CHECK! Poison the water and make sure not with just inorganic manmade compounds, let's put in a liberal dollop of pharmaceuticals into the waters. Make there is no choice for people in the "system" to buy pure food or get clean water. Their babies will be hooked on all this stuff by age 4. CHECK!
So, their endgame is what? To be the only people who can afford organ transplants? Genetically engineered back-up parts? Genetic engineering to be resistant to earth-poisoning?
I guess I give them too much credit. I would have thought with their relentless push to destroy the planet, that they have at least thought it out to the endgame. But they are so unlike me, I cannot fathom their thoughts. If I was making such a concerted effort to ruin our only habitable region for LIGHTYEARS around, I would have a plan.
TheCheney seems like a decent model. Secure undisclosed locations. Being kept alive mechanically. Absolutely ruthless in pursuit of "his kind of people" goals, ruthlessly unaffected by anyone else's plight.
Think he will be happy with just an ss detail after Jan09? Prob. have his own squad of Blackwater. Prob. won't stay in U.S.
The switch has been made. The US has been squeezed and juiced of much of it's portable wealth. Now we are just a natural resource for the globalists. We will be strip mined and farmed by the internationals, just like everywhere/everyone else. We can kiss TheCheney's boney and slightly metallic-tasting lily-white ass as his golden parachute pops open over Dubai, gently landing his emergency life-support escape pod onto the burning sands of New Halliburtonia.

Is there a process for filing a petition against these decisions? Can we not ask for the esplination of how the government seeks to ensure the public welfare and safety? And who was the crony that ignored the scientist because I think we may have a new dukie!

Unreal and Outrageous! When will there be any accountability? We can only hope some day Bush will be sitting on trial for all of the wrong he has done this country. It will be interesting to see this tool, Johnson squirm out of this one. And what is all of this for, OIL. Enough Already!
