EPA Staff Reps: We're Mad As Hell And We're Not Gonna Take It Anymore
If you're a staffer at the Environmental Protection Agency, you might have found yourself wondering what the point is. As EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson likes to put it, the final decision is his to make. And he has a history of disregarding the recommendations of EPA staff when he makes them.
Which makes this not very surprising:
Unionized EPA workers are withdrawing from a cooperation agreement with the political appointees who supervise them over controversies including the agency's refusal to let California regulate greenhouse gas emissions from cars and trucks.Nineteen union local presidents representing more than 10,000 Environmental Protection Agency employees signed a letter to Administrator Stephen L. Johnson last Friday accusing him of "abuses of our good nature and trust."...
The union locals involved represent the vast majority of EPA workers around the country. Signers included William Evans, president of the EPA headquarters chapter of the National Treasury Employees Union.
Evans said that the purpose of the Clinton-era National Labor-Management Partnership Council was for senior agency officials and workers to deal with workplace and other issues before the decision stage.
Instead, "what we found is decisions are being made and they're being presented to us," said Evans.
You can read the letter from Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility here.
As you can see, the union senses a pattern in Johnson's leadership. Scientific standards get junked they say, "whenever political direction from other federal entities or private sector interests so direct." Johnson's denial of a waiver for California's greenhouse gas rules, of course, being a prime example.
We'll have a little bit more on Johnson in a bit.

I wonder what Bush is going to do to quash this union. That's his ultimate goal vis a vis any labor movements and this one is not only in his backyard but in his face.
Bully for them!

Watch your tv, listen to the radio. Seeing this story covered ever so slightly? Didn't think so.
GWB tap dances while awaiting yet another kiss the ring moment from McBush. Now that is teh NEWS above all else.
MSM is the adversary this election season, Dems, make no mistake. Time to take action before it's too far gone & we have Pres. McBush.
BTW, a simple explanation for GWB antics this a.m.- a light bulb blew out in the WH bathroom & George took two black beauties instead of his usual percocet/adderall combo.

I thought he took Zolofts?
Then again, the kids I know who do massive amounts of Adderall exhibit extreme irrationality and irritability if they get too strung out on it. Recreationally speaking though it seems that one would be able to accomplish more with addies. His 'I don't give a rat's ass' attitude is something more common with those who take anti-depressants.
Just speculation.

So what?
It's not like there's a real opposition party to stand up for them, so once again, this criminal Administration will get away with it.
Yawn.

I guess the WH won't be happy until all employees are fired and only appointed heads of departments are left. Monsters all.

We need to see the news (maybe the blogs since MSM has been co-opted) to go after and catalog all the records that have been set by this Republican adminstration and former majority Republican congress. These could make great political commercials. Just look at the number of former officials slamming the administration, the number of retired general officers slamming the lack of planning for the Iraq War, the number of administration officials leaving under a cloud and so forth. It would be easy to frame McCain speaking on dealing with the reality now as opposed to the mistakes of the past. Then frame one stand he has taken reflecting the past mistakes and then say - "Now we know why John McCain wants you to forge the past. He wants to reapeat it."

Dock workers along the US West coast held a one day work stoppage to protest the illegal war. Why not the EPA workers refusing to show until Johnson - the total ass - is gone?
It also has a benefit: the enabling of further environmental destruction would be temporarily curtailed.
I'm encouraged here.
It's "the people" who may save our nation, despite the asshats allegedly in charge.
