Former Gitmo Chief Prosecutor Leaves Military
After leaving his post as chief prosecutor for the Gitmo tribunals because the process had become "deeply politicized," Col. Morris Davis added fuel to the fire when he said that William Haynes, the Pentagon official who later oversaw the tribunals, had told him that "we can't have acquittals."
Now Davis is taking a further step, The Washington Post reports: "Col. Morris D. Davis said he submitted retirement papers last week, because of fallout from his criticism of the Guantanamo court and because of family concerns."
Well, I guess now the Pentagon can't keep him from testifying before Congress, can it?

Sure they can. They'll just delay approving his retirement, like Fallon.

I hope those family concerns aren't also tied to fallout from telling the truth.
It's such a hard thing - to watch the few who do the right thing all take blow after blow with no one ready to stand for them or with them, no real support from politicians of either party - just posturing; no support from any part or portion of the whole of the US Dept of Justice; no real support to speak of from the bar associations.
It's not worth a damn, but at least here's a thank you. How do you value the truth and the law? It's horrible that the price paid can be someone's peace of mind, family's peace, and career. Meanwhile, Haynes is moving on to a slot at Chevron.

Like Mary, I'm wondering whether anyone really wants to hear the truth or lend a hand in awakening America to the railroading of American justice? American law resembles third world justice. Rendition, undermining US state Athorney's generals, railroading goverment officials to jail for political purposes, monkey trials, torture evidence, pardons for treasonous offenses, and on. What the hell is the matter? Our country is based in law, but it means less and less as we move foward through bush. Where does it stop, and will justice ever become credible again? Or for just those who commit to the ways of Bush, the ways of the lie?
Morris is a real American hero. One of a current few. Refreshing!
