Prosecutor Charges Detroit Mayor with Perjury

Let this be a lesson to all politicians everywhere: if you're going to carry on an affair, do not do it via text messages over government-issued cell phones. And then don't deny the affair under oath.

Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, an All Muck Is Local threepeat (here, here and here), will forever be a shining example.

And just now, the local prosecutor unveiled a 12-count indictment against the sitting mayor and his former chief of staff. Kilpatrick is due to make a statement later this morning. Something tells me that God doesn't want him to step down. After all, in the immortal words of Kilpatrick, "Damn that. Never busted. Busted is what you see!"

Update: Here's more detail on that indictment from the AP.

FYI: Kwame is a superdelegate, but I don't think he's pledged his support behind Obama or Clinton. His mom (a member of congress) is also a superdelegate.

Funny thing with these superdelegates: Kwayme and Spitzer appear to have used their positions for personal gain, engaged in alleged illegal activity. Is there an issue with "superdelegates" thinking they're above the law; and what's the plan to have some better oversight/vetting of them?

Men and women have been having affairs and extra-marital sex for ages. What's being an elected official got to do with that? As for anyone thinking they are above the law, try going after chemical companies who pollute our water and food.

Good grief, I can't believe anyone thinks having sex is the worst offense an elected person can commit. On the scale of bad things powerful people do, having sex doesn't even rate. But torture and invading another country and murdering their people and a host of other policy ills that plague America, these I consider very bad.

Um, NeoLutus, this isn't about having an affair. This is about perjury and obstruction of justice. It's centered on an affair, and the firing of police officers investigating wrongdoings of the mayor's office (the cops were awarded $8.4 million in a trial).
