Reid: "Very Encouraged" By Passage of House Bill

Just out from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV):

“I am very encouraged by House passage of a new FISA bill. The new House version adopts the basic structure of the Senate-passed bill, but contains added privacy protections. Now is the time for Republicans to come to the negotiating table so we can resolve the last few issues. The President should stop giving high-handed speeches in the Rose Garden and start working with Congress to finalize this important national security bill.”

Looks like some of our Dems are growing some sacks.

I'm a bit hott for Nancy Pelosi right now, I'm not even going to lie.

Take on W reid! Lets go Teddy, its up to you!!!

Let's see if the little piss-pants can huff and puff and destroy his opponents. What a gas-bag. Once one sees thru his act there is nothing else there.

Hopefully, the progressive side of our government can stand up to this Bully Bush on this issue. If they can, maybe they can start to turn the corner and get the ship righted after all.

They'll cave. The Girly-Crats always cave. W's going to be out there with his War on Terra crap and Harry Reid's gonna pee.

I am almost hopeful about the possibility that some in Congress have begun to see that it is in their best interest to listen to the people they work for. A big thank you to all patriots in Congress who are doing your jobs and listening to the American people.

Your cheers are premature. Congress doesn't intent for the Commission to have much power or teeth when investigating the FISA violations. The final report, even if the acdt were pased today, wouldn't be due until March 2009, two months after the President left. There is no guarantee the security clearances will be approved by then.

The Commission can be slowrolled too easily by the President. On his determination alone, he could conclude that his detailees assigned should slow roll or not cooperate in the "interests of national security". There's nothing expressly preventing the detailees from leaking information to the President or thers to thwart the Commission. Too many of the things the Commission would need to do its job depend on the President's cooperation. That's how we got into this mess: He didn't cooperate with the original oversight.

It would be better if the Congress moved with an impeachment investigation, and not pretend this Commission will do any better than the 9-11 Commission.

Yes. Let's invite the Republicans to the table and figure out a way to help save face for George W. Bush's war crimes against the American people.

You don't have to be a blind conservative not to see it, just an ignorant one to deny it.

Okay... Congress' real power lies with the pocketbook. Anyone notice that NONE of these so called "standing up to the President" maneuvers include stopping (or cutting back on funding) for him?

These clowns are fully aware (remember... he has had 2 terms in office) that nothing less than cutting back on funding will affect his decision making!!!

This is all about their individual attempts at keeping themselves in power. It has NOTHING to do with our own privacy, security, or anything else.

The democrats have had the ability to regulate the money going from us to the executive office ever since they took over the majority in Congress. They have however decided that their own power grasp is much more important than the state of the union or the lives of our troops or the once dearly held democracy which we still talk about as though our leaders are attempting to save.

Sorry folks. In my opinion, actions speak volumes, and all these actions are nothing more than fluff for the spectators... IMHO
