White House Aide Plagiarized 20 of 38 Columns
Well, it all came crashing down rather quickly for Tim Goeglein.
Early Friday morning, blogger Nancy Nall published her post "Copycat." By Friday evening, Goeglein had resigned. And The Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, announced that their internal investigation of Goeglein's columns had revealed that of the 38 columns Goeglein had published over the last eight years, plagiarized passages were discovered in 20.
Somewhat puzzlingly, the paper says that Goeglein was never paid for his "unsolicited, guest" columns, which he's been publishing for some twenty years. So I guess his plagiarism was its own reward.
Hats off to Tim, though. The paper's list of plagiarized sources shows that he often drew from articles in the major papers. So it's quite impressive that he managed to get away with it for this long.

I'm plagiarizing here, but it's apropo: Mr G. was known as both a good & original essayist. Of course, what was good was not original and what was original was not good.

His thievery got him a job at the White House.

From the White House press release:
"Today, Tim accepted responsibility for the columns published under his name in his local newspaper, and has apologized for not upholding the standards expected by the President. "
I'd say he upheld the elastic "standards expected by the President" the way the President does, by stealing and lying to push the President's political agenda. One more Mayberry Machiavellian.
"The President was disappointed to learn of the matter, and he was saddened for Tim and his family. He has long appreciated Tim's service, and he knows him to be a good person who is committed to his country."
Translation: Loyal Bushy or not, we don't need Tim anymore. He got caught and Karl's gone now.

I can't imagine being this guy - watching the kind of "justice" that Libby, Gonzalez, et al. receive and he's gone IN ONE DAY with absolutely NO support from his bosses. Ouch. His only choice now is rehab...

This behavior is typical of the kind of people Bush has installed throughout the federal government: loyal, dumb-as-rocks, all appearance no substance. These are the people who cheated throught college (if they even went) and got others to do their homework for them. They have few original thoughts and lack an interest in learning. Perhaps worse, they are ignorant of government, law, and the nation's traditions.
They are allowed to get away with it, until someone calls 'em on it.
Purposely chosen for a complete lack of intellectual honesty and integrity, just like the Boss!

The White House statement is correct. Tim indeed failed to uphold the standard expected by the President: He got caught.

Exactly.
To quote Dr. Thompson, "In a closed society where everybody’s guilty, the only crime is getting caught. In a world of thieves, the only final sin is stupidity."

No, I'd say "he failed to uphold the standard expected by the President: He accepted responsibility."

Want to start a pool on how long it takes him to land a cushy gig with some lobbying firm? I'm betting 30 days.

Funny picture. He looks exactly like Harold, from Harold and Maude. Only, I guess he's sort of the mirror image. Crazy in exactly all the opposite ways.

From the article the moore posted: "Mr. Goeglein -- an earnest speaker who punctuates his conversation with the phrase ''and I really do mean this''"
I guess someone can speak earnestly while lieing his ass off, but you'd think that a reporter would have honed his/her people skills enough to know that when someone has to keep telling you how much they "mean this" they don't mean it one damn bit, but hey, the guys a good Christian so its all good.

I've always said that if we give these crooks enough exposure they'll hang themselves. It's just unfortunate it took so long. It's all about incompetent arrogance.
The most astounding statement in the article above was the fawning description Goeglein used for his president, The President Of ALL THE PEOPLE I believe this was the same person who described himself as the uniter, not the divider. We've all participated in nearly 8 years of that kind of love.

A real go-getter, but hey, c'mon guys. The crime ain't that big. We all know the sort of person Arbusto attracts (and wants). No surprises here, and if you are outraged you haven't been paying attention.
