Army, Marines Accepted Higher Numbers of Ex-Felons in 2007

From the AP:

Under pressure to increase their numbers, the Army and Marine Corps are sharply raising the number of recruits with felony convictions they are admitting to the services.

Data released by a congressional committee shows that the number of soldiers admitted to the Army with felony records jumped from 249 in 2006 to 511 in 2007. And the number of Marines with felonies rose from 208 to 350.

You can see a breakdown of the numbers by service and felony released by the House oversight committee here (pdf).

Interesting....
I regret the info does not state the total number of enlistees during the same period, as well as the number of those who enlisted (felons) who did not make it through basic training.

Also, it would be interesting to see just how many of the troops are hired, with the requirement of finishing their GED after hire... and if these folks are listed as high school graduates...

Not that any of this matters. Most of Congress has determined that making speeches against the administration is more likely apt to get them reelected than actually doing anything to stop this fiasco. Too bad it's true...

Just goes to show you... if you want to be in This Man's Army, you can break into a guy's house, and steal his money at gunpoint... but you can't kiss him.

Amazing.

If you're gay, you can't serve your country, but if you've robbed a bank, mugged an old lady, pistol whipped someone, you can.

Who is more dangerous in a foxhole?
