Conyers on Rove: "Someone's Got to Kick His Ass"

House Judiciary Committee Chair John Conyers (D-MI) forgot to keep his voice down when there are reporters present:

Just off the House floor today, the Crypt overheard House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers tell two other people: "We're closing in on Rove. Someone's got to kick his ass."

Asked a few minutes later for a more official explanation, Conyers told us that Rove has a week to appear before his committee. If he doesn't, said Conyers, "We'll do what any self-respecting committee would do. We'd hold him in contempt. Either that or go and have him arrested."

The chairman seems to have been having fire for breakfast lately, pursuing the testimony -- with the threat of a subpoena -- of a number of former administration figures, including Dick Cheney's consigliere David Addington. And of course he's also been pursuing Rove to testify about the prosecution of ex-Gov. Don Siegelman (D-AL). Yesterday, in somewhat more diplomatic language, Conyers refused Rove's offer to testify in writing.

"We're closing in on Rove."

I like the sound of that.

And this poll says it all. You won't believe these results!

Please go the hell away.

Dennis Miller could help.

His persona serves a small corner of the market.

He's got a niche shtick.

I hear that greased pigs are slippery.

I'm gonna have a lot of respect for Conyers if he follows through on this. Wouldn't it be delicious if Rove started the fall of the house of cards? If he was the first of the criminals jailed?

Bush is going to get carpal tunnel from the use of his pardon pen.

Which is why no indictments will be brought until Feb 2009.

You don't have to wait 'till after an indictment to pardon somebody, do you?. "Whatever he may have done, he's pardoned."

That's what Ford did for Nixon.

Why can't he do like Rumsfeld with the condolence cards for the fallen soldiers' families? Electronic signatures!

He should do just what Rumsfeld did with the condolence cards for the families of the fallen soldiers: Electronic signature!

I wonder if a Presidential Pardon is valid when it comes from a President who is a conspirator in the same crimes, later tried and convicted for his own role in their criminal enterprise.

I am going to guess that, "it is when the Supreme Court is packed by and filled with members of that same criminal enterprise."

Boy, do we have one hell of a mess to clean up.

Unkle Karl arrested??? NEVER going to happen. Little Georgie will pardon him in advance. 'Karl Rove's advice has been so valuable that I can't let him have to testify in front of such a partisan witch hunt'.

On the other hand... Maybe I should start investing in porcine aviation.

Inherent contempt of Congress may not be pardonable. Karl rots in jail while it gets figured out (no bail system!).

Yes, but will we ever really see them carry out the threat. The Democrats just do not seem to realize that their empty threats, ignored subpoenas, sharply worded letters and other impotent, ineffective actions just reinforce the girleeman image that the Republicans have so effectively placed around the party's neck. Maybe if we ever carried out one of our threats, then the electorate may think we could handle national security.

Someone's got to kick his ass?. I'm ready to help!

Let's write some new Rap lyrics for MC ROVE!

Unfortunately, “Jailhouse Rock” as a title is already taken.

How about Jailhouse Rap?

at the risk of being banned:

Prison Bitch

John Conyers is awesome.

I have a pair boots he can borrow.

Yeah, baby! Patton said it best: Grab 'em by the nose, and kick 'em in the ass!

What a crock... this spineless Conyers will fold like a flimsy tent when karl's lawyer says no.

He's a tough guy when the mic is off, and a Democrat when its on

Conyers is brave on and off the mic. You don't seem to understand the deliberative, labyrinthine path our congressmen must take to assure checkmate in this situation.

And often, when you hear an official statement from a congressman, it has been written up by a staff aide.

I love it, and AMEN to somebody going after these people who only stand for their rules, not the US constitution.

And to all those poster's who like to talk about weakness and what is politically expediant or if the democrats are weak or never fulfill their promises, hey maybe a little levity and some discourse about the subject matter pertaining to the Congressional subpoena might lift this crowd up into action. Whethre or not they are weak or fulfill their duty to serve the constitution how you see fit, does not change the subject matter related to Karl Rove and President Bush's horrible actions used against the American people and the US Constitution. It is fact that Lorita Doan used government offices and in front of civil servants asked them to do what they could to make sure Republicans were elected. That is a violation of the hatch act. Of course how, who and why are also imprortant and this is where bloggers can talk about the discourse related to this subject. DO I think the Presidents use of executive priveledge is constitutional? NO! Why, well legaly I am naive about the law language, but it seems to me that when the president invokes executive priveledge their has to be oversight into the reasoning behind his justification. As of yet this simple question has not been answered because the president and his lawyers as well as those of Karl Rove and others are using stall tactics. Now what rubs me the wrong way is that the same Republicans down here in Texas have comlained about the judiciary and legalistic manuevers used against businesses which they see as unfit, thus resulting in Tort reform. I am leaving out a whole chunk, but the essence of these players arguement is that the rules are meant to be interpreted and if are not interpreted as they see fit then they should be changed. And of course behind this is a great distrust in the goverment in general to deliver anything to the people, because they believe in small goverment and a big military to protect it! Seems like they are for a small priveledged society!

Conyers kicks ass! Keep up the good fight. One of the best we have....

Conyers will just write another sternly worded letter.

Anyone who keeps up the fight for the Constitution, for the truth, to make sure these bastards are held accountable- is a hero in my book.

The assumption is that Conyers didn't mean to be overheard, but he's a pretty old hand to make that mistake. Maybe he's throwing down the gauntlet in a way that might finally leak into Rove's piggy brain. House Judiciary Committee Chairs can't make an official public statement about kicking asses such as Rove's, it's just too undignified, but he can be "overheard" using that language and expressing that degree of determination. As intended, I'll bet the reporting of that statement gives Rove heartburn or maybe even a temper tantrum just over the insult.

Conyers spineless? Not. If you want the definition of spineless, let's look at Dick Cheney. Here's a man who received 5 defermets to avoid service in Vietnam but 40 years later is accusing those who want to get out of the think-tank travesty in Iraq as "not having the stomach". Cheney, Rove, DeLay all gutless little boys who have gotten away with murder for too long. People are finally waking up.

Can we make him Obama's VP?

I got this story up on Daily Kos, help get this on the front page!!

Rove needs his ass handed to him in the worst way.

Very encouraging!

Kick his ass?

I would ask you folks to remember for one moment that this is President Bush's former deputy chief of staff! This isn't an elementary school playground! And we're not pre-adolescent bullies - churlish urchins spoiling for a fight!...

Kick his ass... indeed.

No... it would be better if we BRAND HIM. Throw him over a fence rail, jerk down his pansy-pants and PUT THE HOT IRON TO HIS CHUBBY ASS!

Maybe... come up with a good... DESIGN for the thing. How about, in kind of wormy Euro-scoll font: "R-B" - for "Realty-Based." The "R-Bar-B". Sssss! Right on his li'l pink BOO-TOCK!!!

I gotta... oooo... little... dizzy...

Ohhh... I feel better already...

Thank you Rep. Conyers! My advice: Do not pass Go-go directly to Inherent Contempt. We know Mukasey will not enforce a subpoena. Don't waste your time with it. Show these criminals that you mean business starting NOW. Don't limit yourself to Rove, send the Sgt at Arms after Miers and Bolten at the same time. We need send the message that no one is above the law. Thank you again.

And what's with the uptick in profanity from left wing legislators all of a sudden? It semms the last few days of neo-con tripe have worked them into a frenzy.

user-pic

GIf there's a statute of limitation on any of these crimes, you can bet that Congress will indict these clowns the day AFTER it expires. that way, in their arrogant manner, they can all stand up and bellow how they really wanted to try and convict these nogooders, but the law must be obeyed.

VOTE THEM ALL OUT, FOLKS... NONE of them care a whit about the people who actually make this a decent country to be proud of... IMHO

user-pic

I predicted the Alabama scandal would bring Rove down and I thought that was the main reason that he resigned. Google "Rove, Alabama" for his history in political manipulations. "Il est tres mal." Hateful, mean and destructive Rove.

ahhhh... this feels good. let me pop my bag of popcorn in the microwave, pour me a glass of wine sit back and watch this piece of scum slither his way into jail. this is going to be a great year to be a democrat. their rope is fraying quickly.

Well who deserves a good ass kickin more than Mr Karl "Double Chin" Rove himself? Go for it Chairman Conyers!!!! eha!!!

user-pic

If they could get live video of Rove's history-making arrest by the Sergeant-at-arms, imagine what it would do for Fox News' ratings that week.
Just sayin'.

It's the smell of blood.
It's the smell of victory.
it's the smell of taking OUR country back
A country where the stuff MOST civilized humans believe in.
A country where we the people really matter again.

It's the smell of CHANGE, and the heady wine of putting down 30 years or more of pure 1% rule and greed.

I LOVE the smell of change.

You? Not so much.
I don't fuckin care, either.

You are the dinosaurs, we are the meteor.

:D

I'm sorry, my reply was to The Robots.

Unless and until I see something substantive from Conyers this is just another empty threat, and how many have we witnessed from other Democrat chairs?

How many people know the name of the internet investigative journalist who WAS THE FIRST TO BREAK THE SIEGLEMAN STORY?

JOHN CAYLOR at Insider Magazine.

One of the best investigative reporters working today...covers the corruption in Florida under JEB BUSH.

Caylor's latest is a tip from an anonymous source who said:

_______________________________________________

"The person who is probably the "missing link" in the Siegelman prosecution, is the person who links Bob Riley, Rob Riley, Karl Rove, the Bush White House, the US Justice Department and Mark Fuller--Retired Air Force General BOWEN BALLARD (retired CIA "spook").

BOWEN BALLARD was a CIA agent under George H.W. Bush when Bush was the CIA chief. Bowen Ballard remains heavily involved in "behind-the-scenes military/DOD contracts" and was probably the link for Fuller's company, DOSS Aviation, to recieve its huge Air Force contract from DOD. Bowen Ballard is perhaps responsible for EADS going to Alabama/Mobile as a "trade swap" to the Air Force. The Air Force wanted EADS and did not want Boeing. Bowen Ballard arranged for the Air Force to get EADS if the Air Force would "award Doss Aviation/Mark Fuller to prosecute Don Siegleman."

Bowen Ballard is a regular on Bob Riley's international efforts to recruit companies from other countries to re-locate to Alabama. While Ball Canary, Leura Canary, Alice Martin, Rob Riley, Bob Riley, etc., may have initiated the idea of having Karl Rove/Bush WH/Bush Justice Dept., etc, prosecute Don Siegelman, Bowen Ballard was the covert agent tasked to carry out the mission.

Also look for Bowen Ballard as the missing link in that state's US Attorney's prosecution of Dr. cyril Wecht. Dr. Wecht was stationed at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery, Alabama many years ago at same time as then active-duty Air Force General Bowen Ballard.

Investigate Retired CIA/Air Force General Bowen Ballard and you will find the missing link for connecting the parties involved in the prosecution of Don Siegleman.

When the AG refuses to do his job, he should be removed. One might even be able to argue that he would be acting as a co-conspirator by not enforcing such a subpoena. Any idiot can see this is one big criminal cover-up operation. I would expect the same behavior if the Gambino crime family ran the country.

What is to be done when faced with such vast corruption? What if Mukasey shuts down the AIPAC trial involving Secretary Rice and her apparent treasonous delivery of classified national security material to the lobby group? Does an entity exist that can arrest top officials in the administration as well as their enablers in Congress? I mean, good grief! These people are absolute criminals acting against every interest of the United States. Is there any end?

I did my best.

I signed (under penalty of prosecution) a 47 page US DOJ OIG/FBI OPR complaint.

I signed a SOUTH DAKOTA BD OF MED EXAMINERS COMPLAINT naming two Sioux Falls, SD, doctor who were flipped and misdirected into "joining another conspiracy to violate TITLE 18 USC SECS 241,242,1512, 1513.

This complaint was OBSTRUCTED BY SD ASS ATTY GEN DON "suckerfish of hope" SRSTKA...colluding with GOP punk stooge LARRY "butt nutt" LONG, The SD AG.

So...uh...when the President needs to get cooperation from state officials...he sends out his attorneys (MIERS and BOLTEN).

Both were subpoenaed...and...The Dems never really told us "what questions they wanted to ask" which would have put the onus of suspicion onto the White House.

Can you figure out the frigging Dems?

Dems also have....political capital that includes 3 SOUTH DAKOTA MURDERS OF MY KNOWN ASSOCIATES AND TORUTRE NEUTRALIZATIONS OF OTHERS INCLUDING SD US SENATOR TIM JOHNSON (all of whom recieved copies of my info?).

Anybody who gets copies of my info...ends up dead, or hospitalized with a brain stroke or the misdiagnosed symptoms that can only come from the use of DIRECTED ENERGY WEAPONS by Dumsfield's DOD CIFA Unit?

These are the issues...and personal pronouns that should be used by the Dems when they have access to the mainstream media.

It's not like...the Dems cannot get access to the mainstream media or the internet media (now starting to be heard and followed after CAYLOR'S STORY AT INSIDER MAGAZINE about ROVE'S ROLE IN THE SIEGLEMAN HARASSMENT.

Pelosi, Reid, Leahy...they got to go or explain "what leverage is used to extort their silence"?

I find these proceedings to be unappealing. I mean, the people in power could have done this a long time ago! why didn’t they? ppl have speculated on this ad nauseum. Now the better question is “why are they doing it now?” I tend to think more because of personal ass-savings than a sense of new-found confidence. Not only have democrats won a few political footsteps and nominations, etc. but they have also started to see grass-roots efforts to remove the chickenshits from their seats! (like Pelosi, etc).

Wexler has been trying to do something about this forever, and this dude Conyers is just now saying ‘-someone’s- gotta kick his ass’ like nobody thought of this before?! Also, has anyone else noticed (semi-related tangent) that Chris Matthews is starting to behave like a real democratic pundit lately? he’s actually calling people out? I say this is the election year early-changeovers of cowards who want to keep their jobs. I say do what they do to us… support them by strong-arming them into doing what We the People want, then DUMP THEM for people who will do what We the People want after the elections are over, without begging, gagging, and fighting for it.

I’m sick of this political game… it’s like a cocky jock playin with his hoochiez! Starve them for attention, strike a pose that gets ‘em goin’, pull out at the last minute, and repeat until their panties are ready to explode for the slightest bit of positive attention; then watch the jocks claim godhood because the poor sappy lovestruck fools got scraps off their tables of romance… rinse, and repeat. skepticism doesn’t even begin to define the bile I have for these weaklings. Hold no loyalty to any of the ones currently in office. they have not served your interests, they serve their own.. right now, that means temporarily considering -your- interests until they are safe for 2 more years.

we as a society need to be wise as serpents, and to develop a long-term memory for failures. no more starving for real news from TV, stop watching them all (find it yourself, talk to your neighbors, read!). No more supporting people who pander, but instead use them for their inadvertent good and toss them out like ripped tissues. These people are not your friends, even if they share the party you like; they are tools of the republic, start using them instead of them using YOU.

all that said, at least it shows some hope… dare We trust in it?

What we have to fight for is not a particular result, but the process. We have had three corrupt Attorney's General in a row, men who refused to investigate corruption, so much so, that they became the leaders of corruption, the corrupters themselves.
What we should do is encourage John Conyers' Investigation, then follow up, if a Democrat wins in November, with the appointment of a Special Prosecutor to investigate all of the following, because Carl Rove's Corruption of The Department of Justice starts in Alabama.
1) The stolen 2002 Alabama Governor's Election. Democrat Don Siegelman was 6,000 votes ahead in Baldwin County Alabama and ahead statewide. Then Republican Judge Johns sent Democratic Poll Watchers home and conducted a 3rd recount with only Republicans present the 6,000 vote lead of Gov. Siegelman disappeared, suddenly Bob Riley was 3,000 votes ahead. Republican Attorney General Pryor then seized the county ballots and refused to allow any further recounts.
2)US Attorney Alice Martin's attempt to subpoena Democrats at the State Capitol while the State Legislature was in session. This was done as a political stunt. Republicans and the press had been tipped off in advance.
3)US Attorney Leura Canary's indictment of Don Siegelman in 2005 after using the threat of indictment to force Don Siegelman not to request a recount of 2002 Alabama Governor's Election, then droppint the matter.
4)Roger Shuler of The Legal Schnauzer Blog has championed Don Siegelman's case since the 2002 Alabama Governor's Election was stolen. Days ago, the Republican Sheriff illegally and in an open conspiracy with local Republican Elected Officials seized and auctioned Roger's home. Though several legal scholars have cited legal errors and denial of due process in what happened to Roger, corrupt Republicans relentlessly pursued his persecution to silence Roger's defense of Siegelman and attacks on Carl Rove. Working hand in hand with Republican Judges they succeeded in their corruption.
We have to help Roger appeal this and get hearings too.
Then we can have the Special Prosecutor investigate how it happened.
The Corruption started with Carl Rove and it started in Alabama. Proving that will prove everything else, including the criminal acts of John Ashcroft, Alberto Gonzales and Mike Mukasey in obstructing justice, persecuting innocent people, much less torture and murder, crimes against humanity.

Then and only then can we investigate Cyril Wecht's Persecution by US Attorney Buchanan; The US Attorney's Firings; Georgia Thompson's Persecution in Wisconsin, etc...

bkohatl
Does Roger have a leagel defense fund - where do we send the money to help him ..
