McConnell Spikes White House FEC Compromise
Well, that was quick.
As I noted yesterday, the White House offered a "compromise" to the FEC deadlock -- except that they refused to withdraw the centerpiece of the conflict, Hans von Spakovsky. Oh, and the offer also included replacing the sitting Republican commissioner David Mason, who's been creating trouble for the McCain campaign. The only aspect of the offer that could be characterized as a compromise was the promise from White House officials that Senate Republicans would now agree to have a vote on Spakovsky separately from the other uncontroversial FEC nominees.
But now Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell says they won't. It's either a vote on all the nominees together or nothing. So... no progress has been made. The FEC will remain shut down.

Gee, there's a big surprise. Compromise, my a$$!
There is no way they will seat anyone with the goopers playing fast and loose with the FEC rules. And once the election is over, oh, so sorry.
How to hijack a country in 20 easy years. Yup, real easy to do.
Read Orders and Acts and Lies. Oh my!
I can only wonder what it will take to get our country back...or if it's even possible.

McConnell needs to go. The DNC must find a way to run someone, anyone to get this guy out of office. He does not serve his constituents but the the will of George W. Bush. This man has done nothing but continue to protect Bush and this administration, that is all he is good for--obstruction, obtruction.

The last time I looked, the Senate was split 49 Republicans, 49 Democrats, and 2 Independents. With Joe Liberalman voting consistently with the Republicans, and Dick Cheney having the tie-breaking vote, there is no way the Democrats have a majority in the Senate.
The Democrats do control which legislation can be brought to a vote with the "procedural rules" requiring a 60 vote majority to bring cloture (end a filibuster) to discussion on any bill and bring it to a vote.
The word "filibuster" seems to have been deleted from the English language since the Republicans became a "minority" in the Senate.

I wonder if Bush thinks that McConnell opposing the "compromise" will make the democrats more eager to embrace it. Then McConnell unexpectedly folds, and everybody but the citizens gets what they want.

In other words, McSame gets to have both his bank loans and his public funding, because the FEC is going to be playing dead until January.
I hope he loses really, really big in November.

Here's hoping the 111th opens every one of these cans of worms...
Most of these worms shouldn't even get re-elected.
