Young's Defense Fund Nets $0

When you've got lawyers gobbling up $1 million plus in fees, you need all the help you can get. And in January, Rep. Don Young (R-AK) opened up a legal defense fund to help stop the bleeding. He was forced to pay out more in legal fees from his campaign account than he was able to raise in the first quarter of this year.

But through March of this year, a disclosure report for the fund shows, no one had contributed to the fund.

It's been a pretty dismal year for Young so far -- what with drawing a surprise primary challenge from the lieutenant governor and the drumbeat of bad press. The only bright spot has been Democrat Jake Metcalfe's ("Jake the Snake," Young calls him) departure from the race due to his aide's alleged role in rigging up fake websites to ridicule fellow Dem candidate Ethan Berkowitz.

Is it the long, dark, cold winters, that creates such political snakes? Or is it a requirement of the current GOP party that requires its members to become ethically challenged?

In the case of Alaska, oil is a big part of the picture. Governments around the world that are heavily financed by a single extraction industry have a strong tendency toward corruption, and you need strong rules and strong principles to resist that tendency (neither of which the GOP believes in.)

And this poll says it all. You won't believe these results!

What, no furriers even?

Too precious...
Poor little congressman can't afford the trial lawyers he's been demonizing his whole career.
I'd shed a tear bu I'm too busy ROFLMAO.

Hey, Don, I got another contribution right here--put it with the rest of the $0 you've collected.

Heh, a mink's not so fearsome in a cage, eh?

great comments.

I love it. $0 contributions, the word must be out that he's a bonafide sneaky snake, to have changed that highway bill for a mere 40 Gs donation.

What a cheap w*ore Congressional people turn out to be. At least hold out for more.

Truth is much funnier than fiction.

Why don't his fellow Repubs take him aside and explain the whole 'graceful exit' thing to him? If it's not too late.

Why does he have $1million in legal fees? Does it involve hookers (male, female, underage) or just the usual Gang O' Pirates thievery?

Maybe he should on on Smitin' Pat Robertson's 700 Club and beg for forgiveness, that could net him some cash.

Tom, I don't think that goopers have the first idea what a graceful exit is. Larry Craig? Uhm. No. Vitter? Uhm. No.

I am starting to wonder if every single gooper out there isn't corrupt, deviant, or simply f-ing weird.

I swear, the only way one would leave office if they had tape of him screwing a goat...and then they would blame the goat for leading them on.

Jeez.

I hope that their continued decline is put into overload once Bush et al go to trial for war crimes. Since they have already been charged with war crimes, it's just a matter of time before something gives. Doubtful until after they leave office, but I am going to savor that trial as much as the wonderful chocolate I will get on a side trip from the Den Hague. That is one trial I will not miss.

And I hope it seals the final fate for the Grossly Repulsive Perverts once and for all.

OOops...that was supposed to be Gross Old Perverts party. My bad. :-)

Not true, not true. I myself in person sent the venerable furry, dark-colored, semi-aquatic, carnivorous mammal Young a genuine check drawn on my local bank for $.02 American. And I have yet to receive a thank you note. Unmannered ingrate.

we could senr this poor schmuck a shitload of checks for TWO CENTS, and the banking fees would drive that zero into the negative territory

jus sayin, is all

I don't think you get the story unless you see the guy in the speech ridiculing the audience about earmarks.

It is as if he lost touch with reality.

Conyers would be real popular if he could get Cheney on initiating a war of choice on behalf of Americans.

ooops... wrong thread.

But don't republican lawyers work for free?

But don't republican lawyers work for free?

Only when the task is shutting down a vote count.
