DOJ Cancels "E-Discovery" Training For Office of Special Counsel

Today is U.S. Special Counsel Scott Bloch's big morale-boosting "retreat" over at a swanky hotel across the river in Alexandria, VA.

As we noted last week, there was something a bit preposterous about the day's schedule -- Bloch hosting a training session about how to obtain email evidence when he himself is under FBI investigation for deleting emails.

It looks like the Department of Justice agreed. A DOJ official that was scheduled to lead the "E-Discovery Training" seminar (Scott Bain from the Civil Division) backed out at the last minute, leaving a 90-minute hole in the "retreat" that Bloch had set up to boost morale.

"It's a case of scheduling and we're trying to reschedule it," Charles Miller, a spokesman for DOJ, told TPMmuckraker this morning.

although the lapse is 90 minutes, the taxpayers will still pay for the entire hour and a half... enough money to pay for a few attorneys, I suspect...

Rather embarrassingly for Bloch, he showed up for the seminar anyway, having deleted the e-mail from Bain telling him not to bother and having long since buried his BlackBerry inside Jimmy Hoffa's colon.

Scott Bloch loves kittens.

And we are still paying this fascist fu(k? How long would any of you stay in your positions if you wandered around and deleted company correspondence? Not long, I promise - but that is not how our *cough democracy works within the bush administration. Party over country - always.

Holy hell! On and on and on and on...the criminal behavior at every level of government is sanctioned with a shrug of the shoulders by our blinkered reps.

Special Counsel indeed. He was put into the wrong slot. He was hired for the Specious Counsel position. It's just a mix up with the alphabet.

They thought it was for the Special Olympics.

Either linked the wrong hotel or it's not in Alexandria. The Monaco's nice. But not swanky.

Scott Bloch is just awesome. His experience with destroying evidence, and turning underlings into online sockpuppets, makes him the perfect chairman of an e-discovery bootcamp. In fact, the only part he's still struggling with is that "not getting caught" thing...
