Addington and Yoo to Testify Today
Just in case you've forgotten (and we hope they don't), David Addington and John Yoo are set to testify before the House Judiciary Committee this morning on interrogation practices at Guantanamo. It starts at 10 ET and if they actually show up, we'll be watching and posting developments, so be sure to check back for more.
If you'd prefer to watch yourself, it will be televised on CSPAN-3, or you can watch the streaming video straight from the Committee's website.

From whom the committee will get nothing of value. Addington's Cheney's Cheney. Don't expect much beyond a stone wall.

Is there a point to this hearing other than to intellectually jawbone the in's and out's of torture?

hopefully they'll be able to find out which country John Yoo really thinks he lives in. From everything he's written, he thinks this is Great Britain, about 1775.

Cool. When did the Judiciary start using video in hearings?

Yoo: "We did the best we could...Reasonable people can differ....we were only functioning as lawyers, we don't make policy..."
OK. We can all go home now.

Gotta love Arthur Davis. "You didn't even trust a congress that was a rubber stamp for you." Classic.

I can't decide when Republicans anger me more...when they have the audacity not to show up in response to subpoenas, or when they do, and I have to look at their fucking smug expressions and listen to their dissembling bullshit. I think enhanced interrogations are in order.

just a note on self employment issues...
Yoo is claiming attorney/client privileges. It seems as though "We the People" have been demoted to nothing more than the payroll for self employed folks who now rule this nation.
these clowns... ALL OF THEM... are supposed to be working for our nation, not the mobsters who happen to have taken over Washington. If the crooks want their own attorneys, let THEM pay for best they can get.
I am livid (have been for quite some time) that folks keep promoting and voting for irresponsible, self promoting gangsters with absolutely NO integrity... and then complain that they continue to promote themselves and ignore our constitution and do not gain some kind of ethics through some flash of miracle when they get into power.
Of course, if we continue doing this much longer, the folks we are putting in charge will no longert need... or allow.. our votes anyhow... LMHO

It's long past time for Congress to legislate away "attorney-client privilege" for government-employed attornies hired to advise other employees of the government.
There is no moral justification for this abuse of the custom. This fact needs to be spelled out in law, and the sooner the better..
If a President wants to have a privileged attorney, he should hire one that he pays out of his own pocket, not out of the taxpayers' pocket.

Wow. Another total and complete waste of time. Adding insult to injury was Conyers, at the end of the hearing, giving a special "thank you" to Yoo and Addington for being there. Disgusting.
Dmeocracy is over. Get used to it.

If CONYERS wants to do his job....ALL HE HAS TO DO IS HAVE HIS STAFF SUBMIT A COMMENT TO MY BLOG so I can moderate it, and put it up to LET CONYERS KNOW IF HIS COMMUNICATIONS ARE GETTING THROUGH TO A WITNESS who was TORTURED IN HIS HOME AFTER SIGNING A DOJ OIG/FBI OPR COMPLAINT?
Why not talk to a guy who was tortured under the bogus secretive perogatives and spin control used by YOO and ADDINGTON to rationalize ANOTHER FED CRIME--CONSPIRACY TO TAMPER WITH CONGRESS...OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE...TAMPERING WITH A WITNESS ?...CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT A FED CRIME OF VIOLENCE.

I'm a little confused by your apparently haphazard use of capitals, but I agree with the comment.

Tom Betz---What would be the point of legislating anything with this crowd. They own the Supreme Court now, as we've seen lately, and the Court would just say it's unconstitutional. Be sure to vote for democrats this year all through the ticket. Even if the senator or representative turns out to be an a$$, they'll have to vote with their caucus. And we surely don't want any more republicans on the Supreme Court. What a mess. Did y'all catch Yoo trying to answer whether or not it would be torture if an enemy water boarded our soldiers just the way we waterboarded? He said it would depend on the situation! I think we should waterboard Yoo for a while and then we should just waterboard Addington perpetually until they get another republican president--Hopefully, a long, long time.
