TPMtv: Panties in a Bunch

We posted yesterday on Rep. Dana Rohrabacher's curious reduction of torture to frat-boy-like panty raids, in a House subcommittee hearing on the FBI's role in interrogations of detainees at Guantanamo Bay.

Transcript excerpts are great, but video clips are better. . .

Well, if anyone knows the definition of "holier than thou," it would be Rohrbacher, who seems to understand hazing very well and sees it as just a prank. I'd love to hear from some of the guys who pledged for his fraternity and underwent what Rohrbacher and his brothers must have devised.

I guess it wouldn't do any good to explain to the good representative that men at Guantanamo aren't pledging for a frat and likely see every action—no matter how Dana characterizes them—as possibly fatal.

What better campaign tool could his Democratic opponent have than this little clipfest?

Interesting. Rohrbacher admits he knows nothing about interrogating prisoners yet he proclaims that "being nice" to them is ineffective. How does he know? Boy, who are the people in CA who elected this guy?

drv: he's from neocon country. The rest of the state sees him for the idiot/crook (pick either/or/both).

I'm looking forward to the next episode of 24 where Jack Bauer gets information out of a suspect by putting panties on the guy's head.

Look, if all this is was putting panties on someone's head (as Rohrbacher seems to be intimating), then shouldn't we be questioning how inept a questioner has to be to resort to this as an interrogation tactic?

For those interested, a postmodern, non-topical analysis of this and a few other current Muckraker articles can be found here. Consider yourselves warned.

I'm sorry, he's my congressman.I've voted against him in every election.

Under Article 6 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law."
What enabled our leaders to create a nowhere for human rights in Guantanamo Bay?
Fear and bigoted fantasies promoted by preachers and politicians have certainly played a role.
