US Ambassador to Albania John Withers on Tuesday denied any involvement in the trafficking of Chinese weapons after allegations of US congressional investigators emerged in a New York Times report.“Ambassador Withers is aware of the claims … He is studying the content of that letter and will prepare a full refutation of any allegations against the US embassy or himself once he has done so,” the embassy said in a statement.
In a letter to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Congressman Henry Waxman said Withers had helped conceal illegal Chinese origins of ammunition that a Pentagon contractor bought to supply Afghan security forces.
