Leahy Says DOJ Scandal Harmed National Security
Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said the politicization in the Bush Administration's Department of Justice posed a threat to national security.
Responding to today's report from the DOJ Inspector General, Leahy said in a statement:
"The report reveals decisions to reject qualified, experienced applicants to work on counterterrorism issues in favor of a less experienced attorney on the basis of political ideology. Rather than strengthening our national security, the Department of Justice appears to have bent to the political will of the administration. Further, the report reveals that the 'principal source' for politically vetted candidates considered for important positions as immigration judges was the White House- a clear indication of the untoward political influence of the Bush administration on traditionally non-political appointments."
Leahy went on to criticize former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales for not acknowledging the systemic problems in the DOJ.
"Like some in the administration who would place blame for the actions at Abu Ghraib solely onto the shoulders of a few bad apples, the Attorney General has tried to dismiss the Inspector General's first report on politicization issued last month as documenting the actions of just a few bad apples. But it was obvious from that first report, and becomes more so with this second joint IG/OPR report, that the problems of politicization at the Department are rooted deeper than that.In this report, we once again see that the Bush administration has allowed politics to affect and infect the nation's chief law enforcement agency's priorities.
Leahy said he looks forward to the Inspector General Glenn Fine's testimony before his committee on Wednesday.

I've watched LEAHY's bogus side show.
I call his version of ovesight, SAFE SOFT GRANDSTANDING that does nothing.
LEAHY, is one of the Democratic Senators who prefers to speak in obtuse vague implications...so that no consensus or meaning is possible which CAREFULLY ASSURES TOTAL DEFEAT AND INCOMPETENCE AND IMPOTENCE.
LEAHY refuses to use personal pronouns: DR MARK GORDON (illegally tortured while working for Minneapolis FBI as a cooperating witness....illegally monitored in his home with pin hole spy camera....all KNOWN TO PUNK FAGS AT MINNEAPOLIS FBI WHO DID NOTHING...AND WHEN US ATTY FOR MINNESOTAT THOMAS HEFFLEFINGER FOUND OUT, he demanded permission from DOJ HQ TO INDICT AND HOLD A GRAND JURY.
HEFFLEFINGER ENDED UP RESIGNING....and Leahy knows that BUT REFUSES TO HOLD HEARINGS THAT ACTUALLY FOCUSES ON FACTS THAT COULD BE VALUABLE TO THE COUNTRY?
LEAHY IS A FAT GUTLESS BOUGHT OFF LITTLE PUNK who is afraid of being murdered by the Gestapo, with the usual PUNK COCKSUCKER BOB MUELLER ORDERING THE LATEST CONSPIRACY TO OBSTRUCT JUSTICE WHEN FBI PUNKS STAND DOWN.

Soo...
Is this the same Leahy who decided (along with the rest of the new leadership in Washington) not to follow steps to punish are indict or make the administration accountable? Apparently he, along with most of the new democrat Senate and Congress weren't concerned enough with the illegalities to speak to the press or public or sue for the change (these folks ARE citizens and COULD bring lawsuits even if there WEREN'T in their prestigious positions).
So now, he uses the press to openly deride the regime he has been supporting these past months.
NONE of these clowns deserve to be in power... or out of prison, in my opinion. To openly state NO ramifications for Bush's (and I suspect Leahy's and Pelosi's and others' involvement in the current war and fiasco) actions should be crimes against the state, if it isn't already.
Having said that, I'm pretty sure that the next president will be a democrat, and nothing will change because the mob will still be in charge in Washington and our democracy will continue its decline...
