Report Confirms Gonzales' Hands Clean, Says Rep
From the WSJ.com's Law Blog:
White & Cases's George Terwilliger, who's repping Gonzo, said in a statement: "The report makes two important points regarding former Attorney General Gonzales. First, the investigation found that former Attorney General Gonzales was not involved in or aware of the politicized hiring practices of staffers. Second, when he became aware of the problems he moved to correct them. It's simply not possible for any cabinet officer to be completely aware of and micromanage the activities of staffers, particularly where they don't inform him of what's going on.". . . For his part, Gonzo said in a statement: "Political considerations should play no part in the hiring of career officials at the Department of Justice. I am gratified that the efforts I initiated to address this issue have now been affirmed and augmented by this report. I agree with the report's recommendations."

Ha, ha, ha, ha.
Sure Gonzo is clean!

I am so glad that AG AG has finally found his misplaced memory. I was so concerned for a while, that he had early onset Alzheimer's disease.

So at what level of granularity was Gonzo supposed to have been aware of his surroundings at the DoJ? Was the fact he could tell you whether the building had or hadn't burned down enough?

"The report confirms that Attorney General Gonzales was completely and utterly clueless about any and all workings of the Department of Justice while he was in charge of that department. The report supports AG Gonzales' testimony before Congress that he knew nothing, was involved in nothing, and could remember nothing about the goings-on of the department he purported to run."

Sooooo, Gonzo's clean...according to his lawyer. It's settled then!
Monica Goodling is the new Lynndsie England--blaming the troops is always the first step.
Is Mary Beth Buchanan going to testify? She needs to feel a little hellfire on her feet, if you know what I mean...

Totally with you on Mary Beth, who is the Queen Bee of corruption and partisanship at DoJ, and who of course hired Goodling to begin with. One wonders how in the world the Judiciary committees of both houses have managed to keep her off the witness stand thus far.
And Gone-z0's attorney can say whatever the heck he likes. No-one would expect that a department investigating itself would do so exhaustively. He's not in the clear until such time as an outside entity, either congress or a special prosecutor, has done a thorough, NON-partisan job of it.

So... reading between the lines... as we must do when considering anything concerned with the Bush Administration:
Gonzalez still knows where some warm bodies are buried, and would roll quickly if the hammer should fall on him - so an in-house DoJ report exonerates him, and slings on the wall a couple of flunkies. As much as I'm glad to see Sampson and Goodling paddling in shark-filled waters, I can't say I'm surprised that Alberto gets a whitewash. How would Mukasey put it? Business as usual?

I don't see that. All I see is silence interpreted by his lawyer as innocence. Somehow, I don't think that either Goodling or Sampson are going to be talking much (that is, until they roll on him, which won't happen 'till '08).
I wonder if Gonzo will get a prospective pardon...

I wonder if now Goodling and Sampson will tell the truth seeing as how they are about to be thrown under the bus big time this time.

The freakin point here is all this shit happened w/ gonzo at the top and while in charge of the DOJ. For him to come across as being vindicated is like Cheney telling the guy he shot he didn't know the gun was loaded!
