Stevens Declares Innocence in Public Statement

Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) who was indicted today on seven counts of false statements, has released a statement through his Senate office:

I have proudly served this nation and Alaska for over 50 years. My public service began when I served in World War II. It saddens me to learn that these charges have been brought against me. I have never knowingly submitted a false disclosure form required by law as a U.S. Senator. In accordance with Senate Republican Conference rules, I have temporarily relinquished my vice-chairmanship and ranking positions until I am absolved of these charges. The impact of these charges on my family disturbs me greatly. I am innocent of these charges and intend to prove that.

Maybe this means he will not drop out of the race - in my opinion, the only move that can keep the seat in Republican hands.

Yeah, the Republican voters will still vote him back in. Amazing how that works..take Randy Cunningham, those jackasses in San Diego voted him back with that huge black cloud hanging over his head, and look how that one turned out.

Of course people in America are innocent until proven guilty..but that said..the feds have been after Teddy forevah!

I hope this clown isn't saluting OUR flag after spending so much time destroying everything it stand for...

Of course, he is but ONE of the hundreds of crooks in Washington who continue to do us harm. Sad that most of them will get away with it and make an example of those following in their tracks...

It's rare that even after they are caught they actually have to pay any penalty beyond their retirements and book deals...

Perhaps one more informed than I could ask these folks running for office to sign an agreement to actually pass some laws with penalties for those who stray from the law. Ethics violations... don't you wish the rest of us could just have moment of ethical dilemma... and go on with absolutely no consequences...

Uh oh, here come the weasel words--perhaps Ted is thinking of pulling a Larry Craig.

"I have never knowingly submitted a false disclosure form required by law as a U.S. Senator."

Dude, you may be 84 and you may think that the internet is a bunch of tubes, but you HAD to realize something had happened when you suddenly had an extra floor on your house. If it wasn't something you knew about (and could report), then maybe you should have called the cops. Even if aliens had dropped an extra floor on there, there would have been paperwork.
