Coleman On Cheap DC Rent: Minnesotans Are Glad I Live So Humbly
Norm Coleman took some tough questions today from the press back in Minnesota about his interesting housing deal in Washington, which involves him renting a studio apartment on Capitol Hill from a political contributor for only $600 per month.
For months, the senator had no written lease and paid no utility bills.
Coleman's answer: People appreciate that he's living so humbly. Here's a tracking video from the Minnesota Democrats:
Coleman said this really isn't a big deal -- it's just a nine-and-a-half feet by nine-and-a-half feet bedroom. "It's not not paying taxes on millions and millions of dollars in income. It's a shoebox that I spend a couple waking hours in."
"And as I travel the state," Coleman added, "I gotta tell you, people of Minnesota actually appreciate the fact that I live humbly as a senator -- that I'm not living the way some people think senators live."

"..I spend a couple waking hours in."
Then where are your sleeping, and with who, Normie?

So it's just a nine-and-a-half feet by nine-and-a-half feet bedroom. How big is the bath and living room, and kitchen...?
For more than two years I was scrimping to pay $1200 a month for a tiny studio in DC for our daughter while she was in school.
Wish we could have had a similar deal, Norm.

Norm Coleman is the Platonic Ideal of Weasel. He is the Weasel from which all other weasels are but a mere reflection.

Can you believe this clown took Paul Wellstone's seat? Only in a state that would elect a pro wrestler as governor could shoot themselves in the foot like this.

Why don't you DC residents check out where he hangs out after "work" when the Senate is in session. Then you will see where the money is going that he's saving on rent + utilities - wining and dining young interns. Really, are you blind! There's no way he should be re-elected and the little issue with the rent is just the beginning. He probably only uses the room to shower & shave in the morning after spending the night elsewhere. This room is just a place to hang his clothes. How he's gotten away with this for so long it is beyond comprehension.

I can't believe his response. Where do the lies end??
I want to put the lie to McCain and Bush on their energy policies. They say the sky will fall if we don't drill drill drill. Nothing could be further from the case. Read the details in my diary here: http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/8/17/142624/520/168/569362

Norm,
Are you admitting that you got a sweetheart deal on primo living space and you are running a potentially criminal commercial venture out of everything but the bedroom?
