Conyers Sets Date for Production of US Attorney Documents
Yesterday, a District Court judge denied the White House's request for a stay on the Congressional testimony of Harriet Miers and Josh Bolten in the US attorney case.
Emboldened by that ruling, House Judiciary Committee chair John Conyers (D-MI) announced in a press release this afternoon that his office has sent a letter to the White House setting a deadline of September 4 to comply with the judge's order to produce documents relating to the case. The letter also says that the date for Miers to appear at a hearing has been postponed until September 11.
The quest to find out the extent of the White House's role in the scandal continues...

Could this be the beginning of Impeachment Hearings...? The timing is about right....the elections would be over in the middle of any ongoing hearings..it would also stop any Presidential pardons ...

The Bush White House will apparently "soon ask a federal appeals court" not to force compliance with Judge Bates' ruling.
AP Story.
But they haven't filed, yet. Maybe they're going to swich back to delay tactics by "negotiating" with Conyers' committee again?

It will be good for the Administration to answer for some of its crimes on 9/11.

It is time to demand accountability. If there are Presidential pardons, the next President's hands will be tied. If they refuse to show and/or hide behind Executive privilege, throw them in jail. Miers, Bolton, Rove. All in jail. All in jail until they relent and testify before Congress. This cannot wait.

Commercial came on, so I got up to get myself a snack
You should've seen what was goin' on by the time that I got back
Down in the old Justice Department, Attorneys was havin' fits
That AG said, "Give me your jobs
Or I'll blow you all to bits!"
And then he grabbed them (and then)
And then he slammed them (and then)
And then he kick them out and said he didn’t know what it as all about
(and then, and then...!)
And then along came John
Tall thin John
Slow-walkin' John
Slow-talkin' John
Along came long, lean, lanky John!

I'm confused. Maybe I am just ignorant of these things, but what with the worry about pardons? I don't think a president can issue a pre-emptive pardon. Doesn't one have to be convicted of a crime to be pardoned from the crime? He can't issue immunity. One way or another, before or after Bush's term is over the witnesses would be required to testify.
Shoot, thinking about it, it might be BETTER to have people testify after Bush leaves office. This way those who committed criminal acts spend some real time in jail instead of having their time cut short by a Bush pardon.
