Palin's Post-Scandal Appointee Served Just Two Weeks
It looks like there's even more muck than meets the eye in Trooper-Gate.
After the allegedly improper firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) appointed former Kenai Police Chief Chuck Kopp to the post.
Kopp served just two weeks this summer as the head of law enforcement in Alaska, resigning on July 25, after a past complaint of sexual harassment and a subsequent letter of reprimand surfaced in news reports.
But Palin made sure he had a soft fall from grace, giving him a $10,000 severance package for just two weeks served.
While Palin has conceded she was aware of the past complaint against Kopp, she claims that she thought the complaint had been unsubstantiated and was unaware of the letter of reprimand.

There also seems to be a Dairy Boondoggle she is neck deep in as well. A Kos diary on the topic is well worth a read - http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/8/29/19444/2791/260/579432

Actually, LOTS of scandals.
Anyone want to bet that this clown of a VP choice even lasts two weeks? I'm giving REAL good odds. LOL

Yahoo has a CNN video putting over Palin's fight against Big Oil. No doubt the march will be on to make her all Mavericky, despite the reality that she support Big Oil drilling.

The Gov Sarah Palin pick for VP proves something I've suspected all along:
John McCain is not a regular reader of TPM Muckraker.
Great job y'all,
And for the unusually large number of contributors from Alaska that have done so much to document Don Young, and Ted Stevens, Thank You Too!! Hell, I think there's more Muckrakers in Alaska then all of Texas!

Palins's either lying, or she is practicing Cheney-level plausible deniability. That's the Republican culture. It's the counterpart to the Democrat's reliance of Rule of Law.
Who are her closest aides? What are their backgrounds?

and that was ...
and there is more ...
A couple of the more recent complaints involve misuse of his patrol car by Wooten. In both incidents it was to visit his kids at school and in both cases he had his Sargent's permission.
But there is even on bigger problem that Palin might face. This past spring she directed Monegan to fire Wooten. Monegan refused and shortly thereafter Wooten's Administrative Investigation file, which are strictly confidential, were released to Wooten's ex-wife and her attorney. No one in Palin's office has yet to explain how that released occurred.
Upon learning of the confidential data release, both Monegan and Colonel Audie Halloway warned that if they learned the leak was from the governors office, the would pursue charges.
There is more here.

And the best part is this: you just know that our boy Mitt, and perhaps other disappointed bridesmaids, is going to spend his holiday weekend and a good chunk of next week ginning up a good whispering campaign.
If Mitt can get a real knife artist into the fray -- Karl Rove to the red courtesy phone, please -- he might even succeed. Thirty-six years after the Thomas Eagleton ruckus, that would truly be a turn of Fate's wheel.

Bridesmaids! That's brilliant - You would think after all this time it would be impossible for the Republicans to stun us with their assinine moves, but I am seriously spinning over this one. Especially after seeing millions of those sickening "Country First" ads...I really hope the educated Republicans backlash this mooseshit VP choice...we know the born-again are all swooning and forgiving...
How many of you were retching, while watching Palin give her speech in Dayton...as McCain was leering at her assets??? How soon before his hand slips (Sorry, I am a POW, you know.)?? Who wants to speculate on the date for the first Cindy/Sarah cat fight rumors?
This could be very entertaining, if our entire existance weren't at stake.

This is weird. Apparently someone has taken down information on the official Alaska governor's page about ACES, the petroleum tax plan.
Here's the link from google, but it returns a "page not found" error.
www.gov.state.ak.us/aces/aces_about.php
Is that the document in which she praises Obama? I wonder if there's more to it. I wonder what she thinks about a "gas tax holiday."

Palin simply has too much baggage and too many negatives accumulated along the way to be a credible addition to the McCain ticket.
In particular, she seems to have gone off the deep end after winning the governors mansion. The number of official improprieties committed under her direction will negate any positive contribution she might have made. People will be stirring this pot right up to election day. It'll never be far from voters eyes and ears. The continuous barrage will distract voters and create more than enough doubt in voters minds to not only make them shy away from her but also cast doubt upon the judgement of McCain. And if whatever happens with the political circumstance in Alaska should happen to go against her it'll be all over. Anything short of a positive outcome on that front is not a good outcome for McCain / Palin. And I mean positive. Not negative and not indecisive.

Wordie - "I wonder what she thinks about a gas tax holiday".
She enacted just such a holiday on Aug 25 that suspended an eight cent tax. Since then the average price in Anchorage went from 4.37 then to 4.30 now. A year ago it was only 10 cents over the national average. Hmmm.

There is a lot of other dirt on the site-- legit or not, I don't know. If it is, she's packed a lot of skeezy dealings in 2 yrs, so maybe she is some kind of prodigy.

This is along the same lines as impeach Bush, Cheney and Rumsfield, 911 an Inside Job, WMD, Osama/Obama, and Georgia being caused by the USA. You guys are chasing leads that cannot be proven, based only on rumor and with no credence. It ain't happening. No impeachments, no Wooten proof, no satisfaction for Truthers. McCain/ Palin are going to win. Not because of cheating, like Gore or Kerry claimed, but because "most" Americans are turned off by Metro-Sexuals like Obama, Bullies like Biden and the lies that come out of the MSM. We all see through it and have for the last 7 years of the 9 years that you have been attacking anyone in an elected position. Most Americans believe that most of are elected officals ARE trying to do the right thing. Those that accuse otherwise are weak of mind. Middle America elects the president not the west or east coast radical idiots. Sorry to hurt your feelings but you need to take a serious look in the mirror and figure out what is wrong with you.

There was this interesting sentence in a story today on Anchorage Daily News:
"No one from the McCain campaign ever contacted him to vet Palin as a candidate, Monegan said.
Who did they contact? "We don't talk about the vetting process," said Maria Comella, Palin's vice president campaign press secretary."
Did the McCain campaign skip the vetting process and not even know the troopergate story was out there?

Monegan was the "employee" who filed the complaint against Palin. Why would he be asked anything? He was pissed when he was fired. In a Right to Work State your boss can fire you for any reason. Even for being stupid.
August 31, 2008 12:02 AM | Reply | Permalink
I think you mean "employee at will" not "right to work," and there are usually more restrictions on terminating government employees. With employee at will status you are free to fire someone as long as it isn't mostly because of race, gender, religion, etc., BUT the Governor has an ethical duty not to fire or harass someone for personal reasons or gain. If she did in fact harass him, push him to fire Wooten or fire him for not firing Wooten then that is an abuse of her power as Governor a BIG no, no, which probably would justify impeachment.

Alaska isn't a "Right to Work" state. "Right to Work" is the orwellian name for union busting - which McCain likes to do. As an Alaskan I think Sarah is a traitor because of this, her husband is a union oil worker. We like our unions here.
I think the timing of Ted Stevens indictment stinks, him and McCain have been at odds for years over ANWR. Republicans have been promising to deliver ANWR for Alaskans - if they could keep a majority in D.C., McCain is one of the few Republicans who opposes it.
Most of the people I know here are NOT satisfied with Governor Palin - she has utterly failed to appreciate Alaska's unique business cycle.

Here's People magazine's interview with the Palins and McCains.
Notice that McCain's adopted daughter isn't in the photo. She seems to always be hidden away.
From the article:
"Do you feel ready to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?
SARAH: Absolutely. Yup, yup. Especially with a good team around us. "
Scary.

Also, I can't believe the Repubs are pushing this "Alaska is the closest to Russia" meme to excuse a lock of foreign policy knowledge. By these standards, Barak Obama is obviously the more qualified candidate since Illinois is closer to Russia than Arizona. Is this how dumbed-down our political discussion has become?

McShitstain's selection of Palin is significant in one way in particular: It highlights how little it mattered to the McShitstain campaign who was selected. I can see two possible explanations for this seeming lack of concern: either the fix is in, and everyubody knows it and McShitstain's gonna be #44, and nothing really matters because of that, or the fix is in and the GOPs know they're fucked and it doesn't really matter...
Because he cannot be serious selecting this feculent slag to be the 'prezimunch-in-waiting."

Why is it that when the less intelligent can no longer think of a point to make in a debate they launch into nastiness and hateful comments? It must be frustrating to be "special."

OldSarg, if “most Americans” think like you, we’re in a shitload of trouble. “Metrosexual?” What on Earth has that to do with dealing with critical national issues? If the electorate doesn’t focus on real problems and the candidates’ abilities to solve them, then the very basis of the Republic has been destroyed. James Madison warned about this:
Is there no virtue among us? If there be not, we are in a wretched situation. No theoretical checks--no form of government can render us secure. To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people, is a chimerical idea. If there be sufficient virtue and intelligence in the community, it will be exercised in the selection of these men. So that we do not depend on their virtue, or put confidence in our rulers, but in the people who are to choose them.
If they choose McCain they’re picking a president who isn’t serious about governing, a president who with no rational system of decision making, a president with chronic confusion about basic facts in his area of claimed expertise, and a president who would do nothing to heal the country’s deep political wounds. In fact, President McCain would accomplish the impossible: he’d make Bush look good.

Q. How does a Radical Pro Life woman get rid of a baby she doesn't want?
A. She stays pregnant and then . . . . when she breaks her water . . . . she doesn't immediately get examined by a doctor . . . she gives 30 minute political speech . . . . still doesn't see a doctor . . . . then Ignores a Great Hospital in Texas . . . . gets on a plane for an 8 hour flight, (where No medical attention is possible) . . . lands and . . . . still doesn't see a doctor . . . ignores a Great Hospital in a large Alaska city . . . . drives 2 hours and goes to a rural Small Hospital.
The baby survived despite the neglect . . . . but NOT because the Mother cared for it, as best she could have.
