Sen. Stevens Claims Constitutional Violation

From the AP:

Sen. Ted Stevens says his indictment on federal corruption charges violates the Constitution.

He says the FBI overstepped its bounds when it questioned members of his legislative staff as part of the investigation.

Stevens says that violated the Constitution's speech-and-debate clause, which prohibits the executive branch from using its law enforcement authority to interfere with legislative business. His lawyers filed court documents Thursday asking that the case be thrown out.

The Senate's longest-serving Republican, Stevens is scheduled to face trial next month on charges that he lied about hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and services he received from an oil services contractor.

Late Update: We kind of thought Stevens would try out this argument. Rep. William "Cold Cash" Jefferson (D-LA) tried that, too. And it worked.

Merle(Oregon) says: what would it be like if Obama came up to Fairbanks or Anchorage this week? on his way home from Hawai'i?

Merle says: would that be a 'big deal?"

Reika(Alaska) says: YES! Up here this state is run by the oil indrusty and is very Repluican, plus we've got the Ted Stevens thing going on also. Waited on him once also, not very memorable and not a good tipper. Average at best.

Reika says: You think he'd spread all the money he saved on home renavations around.

Reika says: And Veco the company who paid for them I swear one day I rode my bike past their building and it said "Veco" and the next day I rode past and it said "CHEM2Hill" They must have changed the sign overnight.

Reika says: And this all happened about a week after it first started being investigated.

Merle says: What if Obama appeared with Mark Begich?

Reika says: We love Mark Begich. Really a nice man, or at least that what we see of him. Plus he has the Alaskans heart. His father was one of the men to go missing with the Congresdsman in the Alaska Triangle when Mark was just a child. Nick Begitch. btw he's a good tipper also and eats at my job a lot.

Reika is my Alaskan friend that on the wait staff of a 4 Star Alaskan restaurant in Anchorage.

These clowns have had two hundred years... plenty of time to protect them and isolate them from the laws which govern us peons...

Too bad the democrats in Washington also have so little regard for this democracy that they will not be changing the laws enough to protect us from THEM either...

Now this is funny, a thoroughly corrupt Republican whining about his rights.

And what he is MISSING is that getting it thrown out on a technicality does NOT make him innocent.......just a weasel.

It is time for Ted to 'man up' and take responsibility for his actions.

Or is that just for us peons?? Is there a separate law for Senators? Can they choose which laws they obey and which ones they don't?

Funny, I used to think we were all Americans.

Guess I was wrong.

Sort of how Rush "Pillbox" Limbaugh discovered there was a Fourth Amendment.

Thank you Uncle Teddy for getting my day started off with a hearty laugh!

Bet you think that is a picture of Ted with his hand over his heart. That's Ted checking on the size of his wallet!
