Cheney Heads to Hill to Quell Republicans

From FoxNews.com:

The White House dispatched Vice President Dick Cheney to Capitol Hill Tuesday morning to help shore up support for the financial bailout of Wall Street.

. . . House conservatives are seething about the "big government" approach that they say President Bush is taking in the financial crisis. They don't like how much power it cedes to the Treasury or the price tag.

"[Cheney] is going to walk into a firing squad. I hope he brought his hunting rifle," an aide to one House conservative told FOX News.

Cheney lied in private the anti-war Dick Amery, using false documents. Cheney lied to the American people about the necessity of war with Iraq. Cheney has lied about so many subjects.

Cheney has been the seat of the power grabs for the 'unitary executive branch' which he sometimes claims not to be a part of, as it is convenient for whatever current argument he is advancing.

So the 'Publicans are sending him down to get the troops in line with the President's economic power grab, to send a 'clean' bill (already larded with presidential power pork) to the President post haste. Humm. What lies will Cheney tell this time??

My guess is: Cheney will get them to cave (in a 'bi partisan reach across the aisle', to allow 'Congressional oversight' of the bail out by placing appointees on the boards of directors of the firms the bail out - wing nut welfare for Paulson in 4 months and all those lobbyists on McCain's campaign.

Then Cheney will lie and say it is a liquidity problem, not an asset valuation problem, and so the taxpayers should buy up all the toxic paper, for cents on the dollar. Cheney, lying again will say that the taxpayers stand to make good money when the loans are resold. What Cheney won't say, the lie of omission, is that the solution will be inflation, that will diminish our debt to China, wipe out nest eggs all over the place, cause more mortages (and thus banks) to go belly up, and in the end, massive unemployment - a real depression. My thoughts.

Cheney's going to try to sell his bailout plan. The enforcer is on the job.
The admin. knew that Iraq was screwed up even as they were lying to us and saying it was going fine.
They are doing the same here. In reply to criticism, they admit they had a plan like this in plan for months (it wasn't some slap-dash plan, they say) but then what were they waiting for?

Is this more of Naomi Klein's shock doctrine theory at work? Send this plan to congress on Friday, tell them they have 48 hours to approve, no questions, no review, or the sky will fall in.
The public is stunned, ripe for the taking. Get all the wealth of the nation into the hands of a few, screw the public.

They have done this every two years since taking office. Remember how fast the patriot act was rammed through in 2002?

And yes, as soon as I read Naomi Klien's book, I knew that that was exactly what was happening here.

Democrats should NOT pass any bill that the Republicans vote against en masse. If the crisis is real, then it needs a solution both parties have to support. Make it a straight patriotism call. Force the Republicans to offer their own bill at the very least.

Ready,
Aim,
FIRE!

Teh Hanky Panky plan is more like this:

Fire!
Aim?

The last thing people should be worrying about is this bailout enlarging the government. As Paulson proposed it, it will do little more than transfer funds from the next generation to today's moneyed class. The gov't itself will be tied up in debt until it is strangled to death.

If the Saudis don't listen to cheney why should our Congress?
But we have pelosi, don't we.

If Cheney is on his way to the hill, we all know for sure there's nothing but lies, fraud and criminality behind this bail out. This is just the domestic version of Iraq. I'd like to see how many Republicans are suckers enough to cave in to him this time, especially those up for re-election: Dole, Collins, Coleman, Sununu etc. Here's the link to the list of those up for reelection.

It includes Mitch McConnell - Now will he be escorting Cheney to the meetings - It would be a great ad - for his opponent, who is wealthy and can apparently "self fund" his campaign. This is according to Real Clear Politics, where I got the poll numbers. It will be interesting to watch the direction of some of these races in the Senate & House in the weeks ahead. Che Guevara could take this dude out....

Guessing Haliburton has already set up its asset management office for the no-bid contract they'll be getting from Treasury.

Cheney as the enforcer with OPERATION BROWNSTONE files on all the congressional critters of corruption.

WE saw Cheney get idiots to flip on:

----WAR COMMISSIONS ACT created an enabling act that is used to TORTURE US CITIZENS IN THEIR HOMES WITH IMPUNITY;

----FISA SELLOUT when there was nothing wrong with the original FISA law?...and...nobody had a clue WHO WAS WIRETAPPED ILLEGALLY and WHETHER IT WAS POLITICALLY MOTIVATED WIRETAPPING?

CHENEY is real weak on his MURDER OF A PREGNANT CHRISTIAN HOUSEWIFE and the punk clown democrats refused to "do what I told them" subpoena FBI agents who worked on the CHRISTINA MOORE MURDER in Round Rock, Texas,...NSA TSP mercs used...austin lawyer WHITTINGTON was the "cutout" on the SIGINT that came from NSA 902nd COUNTERINTELIGENCE UNIT.

"The gov't itself will be tied up in debt until it is strangled to death."

Who was it that said the federal government should be shrunk down to where it could be strangled in the bathtub?

Jesus. We'll never get out from under this. And I thought the Republicans were the party of no taxes.

Who was it that said the federal government should be shrunk down to where it could be strangled in the bathtub?

That would be Grover Norquist, and that was the quote I was trying to remember. Thanks, biltud.

Ready!

Fire!

Aim!

All Cheney needs to do is show them a picture of the man-sized safe in his office containing all of the control files. From a show on National Geographic about the secrets of J. Edgar Hoover:

"They say he had a block book on everybody. When he went before congress, he would pull a black book out of his pocket and lay it on the table. Boy, they were scared when they saw that!"

Check this out, from today's "Roll Call":

"Fratto said it would be “unthinkable” for Congress not to pass legislation this week, asserting the result would be a “very, very serious situation” for the U.S. economy.

“It shouldn’t take much analysis to remember what happened last week, which was a very serious freeze-up in our credit markets,” Fratto said. “Our financial markets right now do not need uncertainty, they need increased certainty as to how this rescue plan is going to go forward — and that they can be sure that there is a plan to go forward — and that will begin the correction in our financial markets.”

Fratto insisted that the plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials. He acknowledged lawmakers were getting only days to peruse it, but he said this should be enough."

"Fratto insisted that the plan was not slapped together and had been drawn up as a contingency over previous months and weeks by administration officials."

If they knew this was coming MONTHS ago, why didn't someone step in to do something?

This is sounding more and more rotten.

It is rotten if Cheney's been up to The Hill.

If I were a Republican up for reelection I would run from him very fast, wearing a bullet proof vest of course.
