Conyers Calls on McCain to Halt GOP Voter Suppression Efforts
In reaction to recent claims that the GOP is attempting to block voters in Michigan whose homes have been foreclosed on, one of the state's representatives is speaking out and demanding action from Republicans.
Rep. John Conyers, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, called on Sen. John McCain to "step forward now and halt the Republican Party's efforts to profit politically from the economic misery of others."
"The Republican Party has had a long record of blocking eligible voters from voting," Conyers wrote. "In the past two Presidential elections, the country witnessed appalling efforts to limit voter participation in Ohio, Florida and throughout the country. It is beyond disgraceful that the Republican Party now seems to be targeting those who are suffering the most. . . It should surprise no one that the people who gave us the worst economy since the Great Depression would now want to prevent those victimized by this economy from voting in the coming elections."
Separately, Conyers and 22 of his Democratic colleagues in the House, also joined Senate Democrats, who earlier this week demanded an investigation from the DOJ into what has become known as the "lose your house, lose your vote," after the title of the article in the Michigan Messenger which sparked awareness of the GOPs plan to challenge voters registered at addresses on foreclosure lists.

Take your Viagra Mr.(limp-dick)Conyers...maybe YOU, as the Chairman of the Justice Committee could do something besides write a sternly worded letter....to McCain..maybe impeach Bush and some of his cronies..at least maybe hold a real hearing on it.....or is the theft of an election not a criminal enough act for you...? I swore that I read somewhere that interfering, stealing or corrupting Federal elections was actually a Federal offense of some kind...IN YOUR OWN STATE..FOR CHRIST'S SAKE...

Let me see if I've got this straight: Conyers is Chair of the House Judiciary Committee so, Rove ignores a subpoena from said Committee so, Conyers can cite Rove with Inherent Contempt so, Capitol Police can arrest Rove and park him in the too-little-used Capitol basement jail so, Rove can start singing his twerpy little head off so ... the REAL Games can begin?
If past performance is any measure, little will come of this -- even though they have the authority to actually DO SOMETHING!

If anything, we need a new head of the Judiciary committee next year.

How little faith all of you have in our system.
I expect that a sternly worded letter is just what we need to stop the Republicans from stealing another election.
But on the other hand.
On Barak's web site is a way you can check to see if voter's registrations have been canceled. I think teh party should be checking on every likely Democratic voter.
I know we did this for our precinct.

Any political party that depends on and promotes voter suppression to maintain their hold on power is, inherently, NOT a democratic institution.
Until this lawless administration is out of office, we won't see any meaningful changes, and accusing Conyers of coming up short suggests a severely naive awareness of how our government works.
We lurch, we do not flow...
And after watching the flow of wealth to the wealthy that happened under Bush's first administraton, maybe it is a good thing...

PS have you all heard about the way some Republican controlled polling places in poverty-prone precincts are being moved without notification?
Some early voters need to station themselves at those former sites to help the unaware find the proper polling site...
