DOJ Report On U.S. Attorney Firings To Be Issued Monday
The Department of Justice's Office of the Inspector General will on Monday morning release on its website its report into the firing of eight U.S. attorneys, according to David Iglesias, one of the former U.S. attorneys whose firing is at issue.
Iglesias told TPMmuckraker that he had been notified about the report's imminent release by Mark Masling, one of the investigators on the case. Iglesias said Masling told him that the report, which has been in the works since March 2007, is "very long" but wouldn't offer further details.
The probe, which centers on the firing of Iglesias and seven other U.S. attorneys, expanded to address allegations that a DOJ official, Monica Goodling, illegally took party affiliation into account in the hiring and firing federal prosecutors.
In July, Iglesias made some predictions about the reports conclusions, telling Harper's:
I expect them to conclude that there is sufficient evidence to show that former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and former Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty committed perjury in their statements before Congressional committees and investigators.

Not if McCain gets there first to rescue the report!!!!

I guess after he gets his ass handed to him tonight, he'll need another firefight to ride into...

Explains why Murry Waas's sources fed him the material on the Gang of 8 notes. We'll probably get some more previews over the weekend. One other thing: Gonzo hasn't been able to get any kind of decent job since resigning. You'd think he'd be able to find a host somewhere in the vast wingnut welfare network of think tanks and law firms, but nobody would touch him. They all just assumed that he'd get indicted eventually? Apparently it's been a foregone conclusion all along.

David Iglesias is the JAG lawyer played by Tom Cruise in "A Few Good Men."

Fredo Gonzalez will get the fastest pardon in history, methinks. His current leakage is prepping the way. All the King's horses and all the King's men are counting on it for themselves. How else can one explain away all the misfeasance and malfeasance that was done in a quasi-public way? Otherwise the young-enough ones would never be able to get a job in the near future after all of the cross-tattle that would go on in 2009+. And there really aren't enough wing-nut welfare jobs at Heritage and AEI.

By fingering Bu$h as the one ordering him to Ashcroft's hospital bed I suspect there will be no pardon.

Oh please. Glenn Fine is a hack's hack -- corrupt to his bones. Not only that, he's Mukasey's bitch and Mukasey is a drooling monkey on Bush's shoulder. I cannot believe anyone in their right mind would take this thing seriously.

I'm on the other side of the pond. What time is the debate (US central time) and where on the net can I watch it live, please?

How would a pardon for Fredo work if this report wasn't issued until Jan 21, 2009? Can the Prez issue blanket pardons, absolving his minions of any and all crimes from this period, even if they have not yet been indicted?

Nixon was never indicted, and yet he was pardoned for crimes he 'might' have committed while in office.

Isn't that code for Fri Night, 11 pm?

But remember...per Mukasy, not all violations of the legal statutes should be prosecuted.
As for Gonzo - I thought he had found a gig that was comensurate with his skills.
Perhaps someone else got the job, though. I'm sure there are other, more qualified candidates for Wash Room Attendant at the Watergate Hotel.

When they are sweeping something under the rug, they release it Friday afternoon, preferably before a long weekend. Releasing on Monday is an indication this could be good.

Content and revelations aside, if this report is straight up, names names, and doesn't protect the Bush regime per se, it will be a shock.
Even under Mukasey, the DOJ has not errased its black marks.

Maybe it would be smart to wait until after Bush is gone from the White House to bring criminal charges against Karl Rove. That way Bush can't pardon him...
