Fired Commissioner: Palin Hasn't Been Truthful on Trooper-Gate
It looks like the figure at the center of the Trooper-Gate probe thinks Sarah Palin hasn't been entirely honest about her involvement in the matter.
Walt Monegan, the former Alaska public safety commissioner, told ABC News today: "I think there are some questions now that, coming to light about how transparent and how honest she wants to be," Monegan said.
Monegan also said, as he has before, that he believes he was fired because of his reluctance to fire Mike Wooten, a state trooper who was embroiled in a bitter dispute with Palin's family.
Palin has been caught out in falsehoods on Trooper-Gate at least twice before. She originally said that her administration didn't exert pressure on Monegan to fire Wooten, but had to backtrack after evidence emerged that contradicted that stance.
She also has claimed that she discussed Wooten with Monegan only in the context of the safety of her family. But yesterday, the Washington Post published emails from Palin to Monegan in which she expressed frustration that Wooten was still employed.

Palin remodeled the Mayor's office twice during her tenure.
Wasila is also a Town Manager form of municipal government. This means there's a professional civil servant who runs the city's finances. The Mayor is more of a figurehead, much like the Governor of Texas.

Watching Palin's speech last night I was struck with how much she reminded me of actress Edie McClurg (you know her, hit wiki or imdb to remind you): this typical busy-body housewife digging trough everybody's dirty laundry and scolding them for it. I'm not surprised to find that she tried to ban books in the public library, require loyalty oaths and get enemies fired.

Palin created the City Manager position when she became mayor. You are correct, she did not supervise the 56 employees, he did. Also, the mayor does not vote, except to break ties.
Her campaign included an appeal to voters to elect a Christian mayor. Her opponent was the sitting mayor, a Lutheran. Palin has attended Pentecostal services in Wasilla, I understand.
She fired the librarian (subsequently rehired) and the police chief, who had supported the incumbent mayor in the election. Her issues with the librarian were over a refusal to remove books offensive to Palin's religious views and combining the library and museum.

I was on the fence about voting for her for governor, then my mom cautioned me.
She said that Sarah has some pretty strong ties to the far rightwing bible thumpers and that we shouldn't confuse her 'clean up gov't' message with her intention to put fellow bible thumpers into power.
For once I listened to my mom and voted for Knowles (D) instead (despite being a registered Republican).
I always believed Alaska's Republicans didn't need Jesus to get elected - they still don't on a local/state level.
Now Sarah is the ultimate super-Christy poster child for the national Republican party.
These people truly believe the end of the world is near, they are PRAYING for Israel to start a Middle Eastern war to hurry Jesus' second coming and the rapture.
They don't want less government they want a religiously controlled government.
By the way, Alaskans don't pay a state income tax - so 'returning' that money to the taxpayers is bullshit - aren't the end users of the oil we deliver to the West Coast the ones who paid into state coffers?

It's an absolute riot to see Washington Post articles with datelines from Eagle River, Alaska! (I'll bet the population is about the same as Wasilla's.)
Tom Brokaw was very smug about Troopergate last night and said somebody was going to have to dig up a lot more than he'd seen or it was just nonsense and not a detriment for the ticket.

If it is true, that she has a strong Pentecostal back round, in my opinion, she should be held up to that. Just as Obama had to take his licks on Wright, she should be made to defend her position.
The Pentecostal religion is a very radical way to be conservative.
There seems to be a lot of radical associations with Sarah Palin.
It would be hard to believe, the state of AK., would be home to so many with, with such out of the mainstream views.
I look forward to more scrutiny before I would consider her as a possible vice president.

Here is the vid in question where Palin says she fired Monegan for not being strong enough on rural bootlegging and alcoholism issues and the vid where weeks before she praised Monegan for being a perfect fit for a new job because he is strong on rural bootlegging and alcoholism.
The footage starts at 3:09 and continues to 3:45. Any of you kids have the know how, I think isolating out that specific part to make available would be brilliant.
