In Stevens Case, the Medium is the Massage
Here's a little more dish on the case against indicted GOP senator Ted Stevens. The Justice Department released a new filing today, adding a few items to the list of gifts that Stevens allegedly received from "personal friends" and failed to report on financial disclosure forms. Among those items, according to the filing:
- "a $2,695 massage chair."
- "a $3,200 hand-designed, hand-constructed stained glass window, built to specifications provided by the defendant and his spouse."
and:
- "a sled dog, valued at approximately $1,000."
Stevens' trial is scheduled to begin September 24th. He has denied the allegations of wrongdoing.

Oh Ted, we can see you now. Being pulled in that massage chair by your sled dog, heading for the bridge to nowhere, Sarah standing at the side of the road beaming and waving, yelling "You go Ted. I've got your back!!"

Could some barrister explain to me the legalities involved with a prosecution adding bits and pieces, more items and services received, as evidence of a pattern of corruption, as opposed to, oh, say actually adding counts?
In other words, if more and more comes to light before/during the trial, and our boy is acquitted, can he be tried on these bits and pieces or is the whole thing flushed down the toilet?

So what's wrong with getting gifts.... It's not like they ever ask something in return. If they DID, it would be illegal, wouldn't it?
After all, Stevens wouldn't be able to get by all those checks and balances and ethics probes for this many years if he were actually doing wrong, now could he?
FIRE THEM ALL, folks. The congress and senate is so corrupt it is endemic. The only way to regain public control is to get rid of them ALL, and get new folks in.
Even the current collection of candidates is doing nothing more than practicing misinforming, lying, and denying.... and they aren't even in office yet!
Apparently, that's just the kind of people we want leading us and controlling our lives and futures... IMHO
