New Emails Suggest Holes in Palin's Trooper-Gate Story
Don't look now, but on the night of the biggest speech of her life, Sarah Palin's story on Trooper-Gate may be in the process of falling apart.
The Washington Post has obtained emails sent by Palin to then-Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, which show Palin complaining about the fact that trooper Jim Wooten -- who was embroiled in a family dispute with the Palins -- was still employed. The emails don't explicitly show Palin pressuring Monegan to fire Wooten -- but they do appear to undercut Palin's claim said that she only ever discussed Wooten with Monegan in the context of security concerns for her family.
Here's the Post's description of the key emails:
"This trooper is still out on the street, in fact he's been promoted," said the Feb. 7, 2007, e-mail sent from Palin's personal Yahoo account and written to give Monegan permission to speak on a violent-crime bill before the state legislature."It was a joke, the whole year long 'investigation' of him," the e-mail said. "This is the same trooper who's out there today telling people the new administration is going to destroy the trooper organization, and that he'd 'never work for that b****', Palin'.)
This isn't the first time that events have appeared to contradict Palin's story about her role in Trooper-Gate. Palin at first claimed that her administration did not put pressure on Monegan to fire Wooten. But after a phone recording surfaced in mid-August of Palin aide Frank Bailey raising the issue of Wooten's employment with a trooper official, she was forced to acknowledge her office's involvement, though she has continued to deny her personal role.

If this isn't the biggest self-inflicted wound in American political history, I don't know what is. Heckuva job, McSame!

I am not so sure. Read this post by Jay Rosen. He makes credible observations:

I saw that and sent it to Josh earlier today (with no response). But I think Rosen may be giving the Repukes too much credit: I honestly don't think that McInsane is that smart.

Well, this ought to balance out the bad news that a key witness against Palin, aide Frank Bailey, cancelled the deposition he was supposed to give today.
Oh, I so hope that the Republican operatives that apparently have been sent up to Alaska to quash this story and investigation aren't able to subvert justice. Palin is exactly the wrong person for our country - she, even more than John McCain, is Bush III!

Sooo is this good news or bad news?

The god news and the bad news is that Palin is a time bomb with a hair trigger. McNuts is too full of his own destiny too know better, but she is the dangerous one.
The Uglicans have gone too far to turn back (good news) but are counting on the Dems to go too far and then ride the backlash to November (bad news).
Just be glad that Reid hasn't said anything stupid so far.

sounds to me like the governor of Alaska should be formally brought up on charges.

Brought up on charges? Wait until after the election because that's why her lawyer is pushing for the documentss. Delay the investigation until after Nov. 4. When McCain loses of course, then we'll see the the charges.

I agree. If the they can hold off the investigation under after November it might be swept under the rug. But this tactic might shoot them in the foot when the American people realize that Pulin is just another corrupt Republican abusing her office. Only time will tell.

She has tons of skeletons in her closet. and the speech last night...A mediocre speech at best..but presented very well. Even so I still don't know who Sarah Palin is!

Could the reason that they wanted the trooper, Mike Wooten, canned have anything to do with drinking while on duty and driving his marked patrol car, illegally killing a moose or using his Taser on his 10-year-old stepson?
Just like with the kiddy fucking pervert Scott Ritter, you need to aim higher for your heroes Zack.

The trooper is a State employee. State and government employees have such good unions that it isn't easy to terminate their employments. The whole point of this investigation is to see whether or not Pulin abused her office for personal use. If she did, that is clearly unethical. Since she is in a much higher position and has many state employees under her...should she not show much more integrity and ethics then those under her? It also goes back to accountability. If she didn't do anything, then the investigation will find that out. What is she hiding if she is innocent of any wrongdoing? Doesn't she want the truth to come out? I seems to me she isn't being entirely truthful.
